According to colleagues, Camponotus vagus is found mainly in the Ryazan and Bryansk regions, in any case, we got individuals from there.
We have started a little pro bono work on the study of microbial symbionts of these ants, and we even have the first results.
Actually, we need a new experimental material, but the colleagues who previously helped us have retired, so we have to collect the material on our own. To make matters worse, I personally am a complete layman in entomology, so I count on the help, and maybe the complicity of the respectable public.

Why is it so narrow? Probably these are your colleagues from the Bryansk and Kazan regions. And this ant is found everywhere in the zones of broad-leaved forests and in the forest-steppes of the European part of Russia, as well as sporadically in the steppe zone.

Well, I'm not an expert, so I trust more knowledgeable colleagues, especially if their "knowledge base" provided me with the desired result, and not empty conversations. If they got ants and say "they have them here and there, but in the suburbs neither" - what reason do I have to doubt?
If you can tell me some nests of these ants in the vicinity of Moscow, preferably with coordinates - I would be extremely grateful.

Put me up in the vicinity of Moscow (with payment for accommodation and meals) and I'll tell you in a year. But in the book by E. A. Dunaev "Ants of the Moscow region..." this species is mentioned.

Some colleagues and Camponotus herculeanus with Camponotus ligniperda can not be found in our forests. And the range of Camponotus vagus is picture: C_vagus.jpg

I have never seen Vagusov in Moscow time. I haven't even heard of anyone finding it.

In the south of the MO, in the area of Beloomut and Silver Ponds, I once found it (about 10 years ago), but I haven't been there since.

In the Tula region, in the Kaluga region, it is quite common.
