Today I came across a praying mantis (Mantis religiosa).
It has an interesting spot, black with a white apple. see the photo.
Usually everyone just has a black spot. I wonder if this is an anomaly or just one of the color morphs?

One of the options. It is more common among females and large males.

Good afternoon! 22.07.15 Lipetsk near a residential building in the grass buzzed two large insects. I managed to take a picture badly, because they got out of the grass and flew away. It is approximately 5 cm long (on the eye), has a brown body, and a white spot with black markings on the back.with a white border. The legs are black. Transparent wings, black tips

Thanks! I read about them, they are found only in plants and soil.. I don't have any plants at home.. like animals, so it could be someone else?) 3 times found on a folding sofa. The sofa is stuffed with foam, covered with ordinary fabric, I tried to find a cluster of them, but failed.. I also wonder what they eat. Today I took one to the SES, unfortunately something happened to him on the way)) As a result, only a part of it could be seen under the microscope, they said that it was not a tick or a blood-sucking

Not only that-they feel great in wet places in homes and apartments: in bathrooms, toilets, on moldy walls, in basements, etc.

There were a couple of months ago problems due to humidity with woodlice-potravil, now there are no problems with humidity..

I read that his homeland is West Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. It is also known as an introduced species from Spain and Israel.
"What I can't understand is how did he get to Cyprus?" "any cargo by accident?" - And, after that, this species took root in Cyprus?

09.08.2015 23:22, Dracus

No, it has just a very wide range - all of North Africa, south to Uganda, almost the entire Middle East, Cyprus, Spain. In Israel and Spain, it is by no means an introduced species; it is part of its natural range. As for Cyprus-the revision of the local mantis fauna was released only in 2011, that's the answer smile.gif

Thank you, Dracus! This particular one I took for a female-because of its size. There were similar ones, but much smaller ones. This one, for example-the same view? The size is one and a half times smaller than the previous one.In general, there are a lot of them there-we met every day and this despite the fact that I didn't look for them specifically. And can I link to the Cyprus mantis revision?Thank you in advance.

An antconfused.gif, in any case, just like one of the elephants. Surprisingly, I have never seen or read that representatives of this order form such swarms, especially in temperate latitudes (bee colonies do not count). Still, try to make a normal macro photo. The case is really interesting.

12.08.2015 12:48, blondin

well, if you still meet me, I will do obligator

13.08.2015 12:04, gonkem1986

The first photo is the same, also a male. On the second (Egypt) same species, female nymph smile.gif
Revision of mantises of Turkey and Cyprus is attached. Only there are no keys, no pictures. There is a very good one a new guide to mantises in Europe and the Mediterranean with a lot of information, if you're interested.

Thank you very much!)
