Some of it is staged, but mostly shot in nature as it is (collemballs are all in nature) - so the angles are not always good to determine...

Dear formuchane, I decided to contact you, because far from entomology. Unfortunately, the same noobs are sitting on the country forums, just like me. Please tell me who it is. He lives in our well. It floats on the surface of water at a depth of 11 meters from ground level. I want to know if it's dangerous, where it came from. And what to do with it. It is the larva of a soft-bodied beetle (family Cantharidae). They live in the soil, and they just accidentally fall into your well. They are not dangerous for humans - they are predators, they feed on all sorts of small things.

Dmitrich, thank you very much. Please tell me one more thing. What do we do with them now? Do they not affect the water? We use it for drinking (we boil it, of course). Should I clean the well of them? And in the summer, won't there be too many of them?

The water is not affected. In the spring, they may become larger for some time, but by the summer they will practically disappear (life cycle). However, the well will still periodically get some invertebrates. And clean it... Do you have them there, like noodles in soup? wink.gif

And you can say something about my collembolam and net-winged ones (on the previous page of the post for 15.01.2015).

The reticulatoptera are there only in the first three pictures - the mur_lva lich (Myrmeleon bore or formicarius) and the golden-eyed lich (Chrysopa sp.). In the 4th picture, it's already a hay eater, and then for me it's a dark forest...

Good afternoon,

February 21, 2015

The insect was found in a laboratory in Taiwan, the city of Hualien (east coast). The size is about 100-120 microns.

Photos under a microscope.

It looks like a flea of some sort. Who could it be? The sawyere is long.

Please help me determine what it is? They put oak leaves in the basin and covered it with a lid, and a week later it came out of the cracks. Condensation formed there, and the lid was dripping when it was opened. Now it's spreading all over the room. What it eats is not clear, it crawls on plastic and on the carpet, everywhere.

Yesterday, unexpectedly working in the garden, I came across a female mantis empusa (Empusa pennata). 3.5 cm. Like correctly identified?
It is a rarity for Astrakhan , I see it live for the first time. I was surprised by the following point: we have a small minus 2-4C at night. Where did it come from? It seems that mantises do not hibernate.
In the net, I found the following:
"larvae are larger, they appear in the summer and immediately begin to feed on small flies, then quickly switch to feeding on fillies and butterflies. In the ooteka, empusa is not inhabited by eggs, as in other mantises, but by grown larvae and even adults."
It turns out that in the thaw, a praying mantis of 3 cm emerged from the edema? If possible, please explain this question or tell us what to read.
I want to hold it, maybe during the season they will still get caught and there will be a couple for divorce.
The beast gave small woodlice and collembolus with fruit flies -does not hunt, probably acclimatization smile.giffrom the street at +24C /, hot.

P.S.
Fabre in" The Instinct and Morals of Insects volume 2", writes that the empusa overwinters as an adult.

Empusa larvae emerge from the ootheca in summer. Mid-aged larvae hibernate. Adults appear in May-June.
Empusa feeds on flying insects-flies, butterflies. You can put them in a jar and put flies in it-gradually it will catch them.

Empusa pennicornis, in the Astrakhan region only it. E. fasciata is also found in the Krasnodar Region.

As Vladimir correctly said, the younger nymphs spend the winter. And not in the ootek, of course, in the ootek only eggs that hatch in the summer.
