If you put the question this way, then absolutely any species of ants can be considered myrmecophiles - they live in anthills!

Where will it be correct to put a border in this concept?

Hello!

Such a creature was noticed and photographed in Sochi. The photo was posted on a local blog. People are at a loss to guess. I am a native local, I have never seen such a beast.

What kind of creature does anyone know, and does it belong in Sochi?

This is not a hymenopteran, but a dipteran, a relative of flies and mosquitoes. Ctenophora flaveolata weevil, female. In Europe, it is listed in the red books of different countries. Nothing to be afraid of, it doesn't bite.

This is a long-legged mosquito (family Tipulidae), the female is most likely Ctenophora flaveolata. There is nothing unusual about it, although it is quite rare. I think you have never seen many "animals" living in your regionsmile.gif

Thanks! Wow, what a clever disguise a mosquito has - as a wasp. We will know and not kill, once in the Red Book.

Thanks! I think you're right. There are still a few strange insects that have been worrying us for several years. If necessary, I will take a picture and be sure to ask a question here))

Hello! Once when I was a child, in a suburban area, I sometimes came across an ant ( at least the structure of an ordinary ant) with a specific, striped zebra-like color. I recently saw it again, but I couldn't take a picture of it. Could you identify it by its description? Size 10-12 mm., black and white stripes, wanders alone, rarely catches the eye. The place of discovery is the Absheron Peninsula. Thank you.

Dear colleagues, in particular ENO and TimK, we finally received an answer from our specialist in that formics. He named this animal as F. cunicularia glauca

28.04.2016 11:14, ИНО

Very strange. Our glaucasus is not like that at all - they do not have improper hairs on the epinotum and in other places. But maybe it's different in Siberia.

28.04.2016 12:06, akulich-sibiria

and these are now different types or what?

28.04.2016 13:41, ИНО

Cunnilingus and glauca? Like yes, but in the case of ants, everything is very ambiguous.

Thank you so much for the information. Very interesting.
Regarding glauca (as I understand the situation):
At first, it was a subspecies:
Formica cunicularia glauca.
Then Seifert made it Formica glauca.
Then this opinion was considered untenable and Formica glauca was reduced to a synonym for Formica cunicularia. So it's now Formica cunicularia, as I understand it.

30.04.2016 0:53, ИНО

No, Seifert has it (or rather, presumably it) not glauca, but something else, but his name was considered a junior synonym.

Male, Cimbex femoratus. If it had stung, they would have already recognized it by pawing an unknown animal lol.giflike this

Yes, this is a different view. Formica pratensis. Only here it is necessary to judge not by dark paws, but by a bright black spot with clear borders on the top of the chest and abundant spaced hairs on the top of the chest, and throughout the body. You can see them in the photo. The previous view was "bald"in this regard.
