Ectemnius ? Crimea, 4.06

Judging by the parietal furrows, the female is Lestica.
Most likely, L. clypeata, but for a guarantee it would be good to see the muzzle of the face (more precisely, the platypus). shuffle.gif

The plum was attacked by aphids and there is now a whole variety of different insects. But the most interesting thing is the riders. I couldn't catch a few species, but here's what I have. Sudaksky district 2.06. 2, 3 and 5 are quite numerous.
I recently came across something similar to number 4. The story is this: I was collecting twigs of meadowsweet with aphids (for food for ladybirds), and among them there was a white larva, I thought it was a fly. Then it pupated and on 27.05 this came out. Length 6.7 mm.

Today it turned out that grandfather's vintage (21! year) means colorcid from Colorado potato beetles, which was to be expected, did not work on these very beetles. In the process of "inspection", I found the rider in the process of" hitting " the larva: everything is as it should be, tapping with antennae, straddling the pest... Photo of the hero is attached...is this a common occurrence? I don't recall seeing any riders from Colorado. Length up to 7 mm

I made a page like this. Definition of social wasps (HYMENOPTERA: VESPIDAE) There will be more births in the future. - http://vespidae2012.narod.ru/determinant.html

Hmm, there is no determinant there, as, indeed, the "description of the genus Vespa". There was already one friend who "described" the hornets, de facto compiling and not quite correctly conducting data from popular English-language sites. It would be better if you made a definitive table for public operating systems in Western Ukraine.

The larva was a fly - gurgler. And its parasite is Diplazon laetatorius F. (Ichneumonidae, Diplazontinae)

As far as I know, ichneumonids have not been observed parasitizing Colorado Potato beetles and their larvae. Unfortunately, even subfamilies are difficult to pinpoint. Aren't there any other photos?

Good evening." Please tell me the type of wasp. Its color when dried somewhat darkened. In living individuals, the stripes on the abdomen are bright yellow. It is caught on sedimentary bumpy sands, where it is often found. Likes to sit on well-warmed sun-exposed areas of sand: more often on sand emissions from rodent burrows.

Sorry, Roman, but this is NOT a determinant. Identifying hymenoptera "from pictures" is a hopeless task. Have you seen all these views yourself, or is it a compilation from other sources? If the latter, then which ones, if not a secret?
By the way, no pictures will help you with other types of vespin and, especially, polistin.

Yes, it is very similar to Bembix rostrata. And the strongly elongated yellow upper lip covering the oral organs is clearly defined. Thank you very much for your help.

Take your time, a long upper lip is a sign of the entire Bembix genus.
You have a male of this genus. But, unfortunately, the photo does not show the distinctive features of the species.
- if the 7th tergite of its abdomen is without teeth on the sides, the 3rd-5th sternites with uniform and dense punctuation, the 2nd and 6th sternites each with a strong longitudinal tooth, and the 7th sternite with a longitudinal and bifurcated keel at the end-this is Bembix rostrata
- if the 7th tergite of the abdomen with each side at the base with a tooth, the 3rd-3rd sternites with uniform and dense punctuation, the 2nd and 6th sternites without teeth, and the 7th sternite is convex, but without a longitudinal keel-this is Bembix bidentata

Now I looked, about a dozen of them came across near the nests of anthophores and on the dry slope. It's not too far from the city, and there aren't many people in those places. So you can "frolic" there smile.gif
