Since childhood, I have been tormented by a question about the most banal beetles near Moscow.
Are these two species or two subspecies of one?
#1) clearly Melolontha hippocastani F., 1801, but #2)? (M. melolontha) - it seems that we should not have it. Please help me figure it out!

In my opinion, both are males of Melolontha hippocastani. Just the bottom one is worn somewhat. What's bothering you?
P.S. And why are you here, and not in the definition of beetles zababahali?

Confuses the color of the pronotum and legs of the second (means aberration)?
And here I threw it off in a hurry just (I didn't think).

The eastern one differs from the western one, first of all, in the shape of the pygidium: in Melolontha melolontha it is longer and more refined, in Melolontha hippocastani it is short and has a "pimple"at the end. Both of your "pimpochka" are visible in the photo. And the color is aberrations: reddish beetles with a red pronotum and legs (aberration Rex) and black-with a black pronotum and legs (nigripes).

Thanks! In principle, I thought so myself (based on the areas). Special thanks for pointing out aberrations!

Upis ceramboides Linnaeus, 1758-это. On a birch tree? You would have taken a better photo, otherwise I had to download your file and photoshop it to figure it out.

Well, this is something strange (in the Moscow region it is tied to a birch tree).

Moreover - not only forest, but also "tied" to swampy biotopes: I found it on birch trees on the outskirts of the swamp, and Elizar-too. And here-the sands!.

In fact , it is impossible to approach the "bank" of the Chu River: you will have to wade through the reed thickets. But this is not a swamp.

Well, I haven't met you on sukhodolakh, although I absolutely believe you, of course. They were caught by me specifically on mushrooms on a birch tree, in May-June. Once more I gathered it on the fallen trunk of a poplar tree, under the bark.

In the village (Furmanovka) poplars grew (year 1978, I don't know how now). However, it is 5 km from the gathering place.
