In Danaus chrysippus, the difference is that the male and female are still visible on the outer side of the wings. On the upper wings, you should look for the presence of white dots, the female has more of them.

Males have androconial scales. This is the lower spot on the hind wings. In other species, they are located approximately in the same place; often visible only from the underside.
