Acronicta cinerea

Today, Sverdlovsk region, in a forest clearing.

Hyphantria cunea

Today, Sverdlovsk region, in a forest clearing.

This is a very small photo, and you can use it to identify several species from different genera and families.
1.
  Hyphantria cunea
(There is no Blue code in the Sverdlovsk region)

2. Laelia coenosa (Blue is not available in the Sverdlovsk region)

3. Spilosoma urticae (Blue is not found in the Sverdlovsk region)

4. Spilosoma lubricipeda (According to Sinev there is in the Sverdlovsk region)

5. Scirpophaga praelata (Blue is not found in the Sverdlovsk region)

If I don't imagine that the legs are yellow, then the only possible options are: 2, 3, 4. The probability of these types decreases with increasing numbers. despite the lack of data on 2 and 3 in the Sverdlovsk region.

I'm for Spilosoma lubricipeda.

I'll probably stick with the Spilosoma urticae / lubricipeda variant. Although, if you believe the Blue, then there
is lubricipeda.

The link from the image takes the original photo, so I cropped it:

picture: sverdlovsk.jpg

Obviously, this is an erebid with yellow legs.
Isn't it a female Diaphora mendica?
I do not know when they fly in the Middle Urals and in how many generations...

Yes, this is also a good option. smile.gif

There is another photo, maybe it will help you determine?

The belly seems to be yellow -- so Spilosoma sp.

24.06.2017 20:56, Alexandr Zhakov

There is another photo, maybe it will help you determine?

The photo shows that it is definitely a female wink.gif
For Diaphora mendica, a slightly different proportion, and the absence of a black dot on the outer edge of the central cell, I did not meet this spot anywhere. slightly yellowish tint behind Laelia coenosa, but it may just be a color effect when shooting. As if black dots draw a barely visible external sling of Spilosoma, only yes, only no.
I was left with the same result.

Can this Scythris from Pestovo be identified? And then it seems that you can see some obscure longitudinal stroke, like laminella. Unless, of course, it is an artifact of photo data and other photos from the Internet. Mowed down in a biotope with a hawk, the size is suitable.

1 Epiblema sticticana? Quite large 10-11 mm.
picture: IMG_7303.jpg

2 Phyllonorycter medicaginella? Mowing on alfalfa or a similar plant.
The butterfly is much smaller than the usual filonorycter, 2.5-3 mm.

Then it turns out that Phyllonorycter medicaginella is a new species for the 8th region.

The species is found in the north-west of the Ulyanovsk region (Inza district), where it inhabits old and moist mixed forests. Described, by the way, also from near Simbirsk.
