People!
Help me collect the window trap!
Tell me what structures, materials, dimensions, etc. were used.

It seems to be written about window traps on the Zinovsky website. I haven't tried it myself yet. Once I found a drawing on the Internet. Maybe

I wonder if the pin with the yellow bucket will "work"? A sort of analogue of Merike cups?! Or, depending on what to pour there...
And as for the "windows", it is still better to do without a frame, or with a not so noticeable one.

And more specifically!?
Maybe someone in Paint at least draw!
I don't understand what people make this storage tank out of!

The pin will catch it, all that yellow catches. But! At a meter height, there is little fauna for which yellow traps are designed. They need to be placed on the ground, they are designed for passively flying small insects (mostly).
The only use of buckets on meter-long pins, I recall, is in ecological records of aphids in agrocenoses. When there is a need to raise traps above a solid layer of plants.
And pour into the yellow traps
1. water (for 24-48 hours),
2. water with salt (for 48-72 hours),
3. propylene glycol or ethylene glycol (4-7 days).

There is an article: Samkov M. N., Chernyshev V. B. Window traps and the possibilities of their use in entomology. Journal. 1983. V. 10

I can post in the topic "scans"

By the way, I haven't used this method myself yet...

Let us know if you have any new ideas.

The truth swings a bit long...

I read quite a lot of literature. I would like to listen to those who actually used window traps themselves. And more details. For example, I am interested in the possibility of replacing the glass with some kind of plastic(I really don't want to carry several glasses on myself). And as for the fixing liquid, whether regular ethyl alcohol is suitable or not.
I would like links to personal experience.

I didn't catch it myself, but there is a desire to try it. There is indeed a question about glass and alternatives. Only I thought even more eloquently... replace the glass with plastic wrap. On expeditions, it is dangerous and pathetic to carry glass, and you need to carry a lot. About the retainer. In this article, a solution of washing powder was used.

How important do you think the transparency of an object is for a flying insect?
I think it's necessary to dance from this...

I think it's important, of course. But how much???

if someone is very interested in this topic, then I advise you to go through the construction market...
Maybe that's what gets caught!
For example, I saw small pieces of thin and transparent plastic from a friend!
So we must sell!

Well, let's try it. And in the fall we will share our experience.

During his trips to Peru, A. Petrov used suspended window traps made of flexible plastic. They were just ordinary paper folders (hard). Two folders were connected by spines strung on a common pin. It turned out a 4-sided trap, plus a pallet, a retainer-alcohol. In our latitudes, propylene glycol or ethylene glycol.
The main condition for good fishing is that there should be a lot of traps! And then, you need to outweigh them in search of a good place.

I want to try out car windshields. We have a car service nearby, so there are piles of them rotting...
