Can I ask you a more specific question? I mean, what kind of cases are insects in, or where do we put the boxes?

I am interested in cases and everything related to storing collections at home.

look in the fourth department for the topic "making equipment for insects", there are written recipes for making boxes. I use cardboard boxes made from A4 paper, cut them off, put styrofoam and use them. Inside I attach a pin to a piece of paper, folded in a cone, with mothballs.

For example, I use boxes from under A4 sheets, hard foam on the bottom. That's the whole system.Pretty simple. At the same time, it's pretty sloppy.Nowadays, it is expensive to order boxes for yourself.

if it is not difficult for you you can take a couple of photos

Wow, that's great!! And I'll take a couple of photos if I can.

It is best to make the boxes durable and strong. There is another option - the sides of the box are made of plywood, and on top is argalite. This structure is attached with small nails. To fix the lid of such a box inside, an insert is made of the same argalite. However, without a professional carpenter, it is difficult to make such a box well.
But the cost of its garazdo less than an analog made of wood. Then it is varnished and voila! Use it until your retirement!!!

Here I am and such a box.

I was going to order a batch of dry beetles.
But there is no box yet.
How many of them can be stored in a desk drawer, for example? no harm to them.
Well, there, so that no one eats.
Also, if I haven't had any experience with soaking and straightening before, what is the probability of breaking or ruining beetles doing it for the first time?

17.01.2012 15:45, Zlopastnyi Brandashmyg

As much as you want. Until the skin eaters eat it wink.gif

Seriously, I recommend hermetically sealed plastic microwave containers. But the material must be completely dry, otherwise everything will rot.

Some materials I keep in the freezer, again in sealed packaging, you can just wrap in plastic bags.

The probability of breaking everything in the absence of experience is very high, so first practice on what is not a pity.

There was nothing else, there were rhinos in a plastic box, but they were spored by some larvae into dust.
And what funds will be enough to 100% protect them from leatherworms and other things?
What should be the price of the box?

17.01.2012 17:58, Cloyster

I've already read popular articles on Google.
But there's a little bit of everything.
I am specifically interested in how not to screw up and break rhinos and lucanids.
What is the best way to fix it, it is obvious that on glue and signs.
But where are there detailed guides with pictures?
And do they need to be treated with something from pests?
And how can a dry beetle rot? tell us more about what will happen to him?

I've already read this, but the mb is still there

100% - I don't know. First, the box should be tightly, preferably hermetically sealed, then the skin eaters will simply not get into it. Secondly, the material must be reviewed and processed periodically. There are a lot of ways, and they were repeatedly discussed on the forum. The simplest is freezing, then various chemicals, naphthalene, flea collars, etc.

To begin with, we can recommend: Kozlov M., Nienburg E. Your collection. The book is available at http://herba.msu.ru/shipunov/school/sch-ru.htm

It is necessary to treat pests - see the post above.

A dry beetle can't rot. But if the material is even slightly wet, it will rot very quickly in an airtight container.

Container price ??? - I don't know, the curl depends on the size.

In general, theoretically, learning to ride a bicycle is not difficult - and with the unfolding of the material. Take the material that you don't mind and experiment.

I am very grateful.

One more question.
I ordered a lot of large beetles on insect-sale
, mostly tropical rhinos and lucanids.
I've heard that beetles are soaked in gasoline for a long time.
What is it for? to remove fat from them? do you also need to soak the dry material? or is it done with the freshly killed?

get wet in gasoline or not?

27.01.2012 18:24, Cloyster

wet it or not?

Cloyster, you should read the forum first. All this has already been discussed.

there was discussed indirectly, I will not stir up the entire forum and collect bit by bit what I need.
90% of discussions are butterflies and ground beetles.
moreover, it is not clear what is being discussed, fresh material or dry.

28.01.2012 16:06, Bad Den

wet it or not?

Definitely wet, in the toilet!

it was discussed indirectly, I will not stir up the entire forum and collect bits and pieces of what I need.

So someone has to do it for you? No question, 2000 euros - and a method for degreasing large beetles will be provided to you.

Cloyster, gasoline is used to soak dry insects that show greasy spots. Since you ordered dry ones, there is no point in writing about the methods of processing fresh ones. Soaking dry, large, tropical beetles is not difficult. For exl. pubescent, light, and some others. Caution is needed with dry ones. Impaling large beetles is now "not fashionable". On the forum all methods are described....

Someone made slots in the sidewalls of the box for all sorts of poison from pests? or put moisture absorbers?
or is it not required?

How do you attach butterflies to the frame?

03.06.2012 22:12, captolabrus

If you mean how to put an insect in a collection box, then an entomological pin is inserted into the isolon bottom, and if the question of a souvenir is on the wall, then the butterfly, as well as any other insect, is glued to the decorated bottom, without a pin, on pva, or with different sealants, adhesives moments.
