Humidity and a collection

I have a 240-liter aquarium in my room where the collection is kept. They say the aquarium increases the humidity in the room - and this is bad for dry butterflies. The aquarium has been standing for more than a year and I noticed that some specimens (they are about 10 years old) have dropped their wings(scoops, moths, pigeons). Can it be because of the aquarium, and how to deal with it?Can put something that absorbs moisture in boxes with butterflies . confused.gif

I don't think the avariumextends so much moisture. If ,of course, it is closed. For example, in the morning, when the window / balcony is open, humidity will be much more significant. Also affects the material of what the boxes are made of.And finally, lowering the wings of butterflies over time is quite natural. Moreover, not only moisture, but also heat, cold, and pests can infuse et.

From changes in humidity throughout the year, even the doors stop closing... smile.gif You can put a bag of silica gel in each box, but it will have to be changed periodically.

I have three aquariums in the room where the collection is kept. "Do not scold" the fish, they are not to blame. At least, I think so.

The fact that the aquarium greatly increases the humidity in the room is an old legend that arose in those days when aquariums were practically not closed from above. In modern aquariums with a lid, evaporation is slow and does not affect the humidity in the room much. The rate of evaporation can be judged by the degree of decreasing water in the tank. Notice how the water level changes over the week and how much water needs to be refilled to its original level. Or buy an electronic psychrometer - it will accurately show the humidity level.

I recently found a cardboard box of butterflies in the garage that had been there for 13 years. And the wings didn't come down, but the skin-eaters did a great job (some of them had completely missing bellies and the pattern on the wings was badly damaged). The garage is not heated if anything, and the changes in humidity in the garage were like in the tropics, especially in spring and autumn.

I think I found a solution to the problem of changes in humidity in the room www.henkel.ua/stopvologa - desiccant, put 3-4 pieces in a cabinet with boxes - I'll try it may help.

The main thing is that there would be no sudden changes in temperature, decrease or increase.
It can also be very much influenced by the temperature at which the butterflies were spread and at which they were stored for the first time for 1-2 months.Well, ventilation is mandatory
