The beetle does not fit on a standard board size. What to do

Community and ForumEntomological collectionsThe beetle does not fit on a standard board size. What to do

Caught a rhino beetle. Length 4.5 cm. Width 1.7 cm. It doesn't fit on standard dies. The largest one is 45x16 mm. What to do. After all, they somehow place beetles of large sizes. And in general, can anyone tell you the standard size of the dies. He doesn't want to post anything on it. There must be aesthetics and order.

Please excuse me, Mr. suomi_man, but why do this? I saw such a perversion when Odontolabis were mounted in a similar way: two large dies were taken, glued together crosswise, and a beetle was planted on this whole thing. And then there was the glue, which reminded me of raspberry jam - the same nasty color and consistency. This is all impractical, impractical and very often harmful, since many beetles need to be viewed from below. My opinion - prick on a pin.

Take the example of Minya wink.gifPrick love stopped. I do this-a die made of thick paper or kortonka-a thin strip is cut out a little longer than half the beetle in width and glued to the middle chest so that the end of the die with a pin stuck sticks out near the right middle leg smile.gif

Dies are great. But I agree with Mr. Nimrod. Such large beetles as Oryctes nasicornis are much more practical to prick. Andrey, a very good way to make dies yes.gif

Now I do not see less practicality in the dies-edisntvnye minus a little more time it takes, but a lot of advantages-transportation, easy re-distribution, you can put a bunch of beetles in your collection, and then if you want to exchange some, etc., etc. - there have already been a lot of discussions.
The definition is no worse. I keep Lucanus maculifemoratus on the die perfectly, plavunets large too. It's just that the beetles look nicer (you can say like new smile.gifones ). The choice is made by everyone himself.

In general, is it possible to buy dies in Russia? And what time will it be released? And then there are 10 pieces left, no more.

In Moscow, Zhuravlev sells them, however, expensive. If you will be at a forum meeting, then buy it.

The question is not whether to glue or prick. This is for an amateur. The question is: what are the standard die sizes? That's all up to 45x16, but are there any big ones? What sizes???? It is not a problem to make the dies yourself, but what sizes should they be?

If someone needs it....
Very good dies come out of transparent plastic (or something similar), which is embedded in the cuffs and collar of shirts.
Cut out whatever size you want for any beetle. When gluing with high-quality PVA, the aesthetics are complete.

suomi_man:
don't fool yourself with standards. They are not too large, since they are not supposed to be pasted (it seems)

Nimrod: the definition of a thin die does not interfere. And you can first operdelit beetle, and then glue or glue on transparent dies. There are a million options. Again, it's a matter of taste. Moreover, it is always possible to pierce crookedly (in principle, it never works out perfectly), but it is impossible to apply it to the die - you can always adjust the height and slope.

Unfortunately, it is unlikely to work... frown.gif Tomorrow I'll be another 160 km further south, and I won't be back until mid-July...

Very sorry. There will be a shortage of you, there are few beetle experts. And the congress is like July 13, you can make it.
