It's funny that for quite a long time in online stores enterprising lads sell copies of well-known expensive publications (entomological, modern, from what I noticed - Japanese atlases), often in the same year as the original, and are sold at half the price. No loss of quality!

Would it be difficult to give an example, a link, please?

I ran through the Internet stores (I watched it a long time ago), all the cheap copies were disassembled (or maybe they were forbidden to put them in the public domain, this is still a copyright violation for everyone), only the expensive originals remained (and even then not all of them).
However, as an example:

02450 DIDIER & SEGUY Catalogue illustré des Lucanides du Globe
- 1953 - 223 p - 136 figs + atlas de 112 pl - in 2 vols hf leather. Text volume bound interleaved with some notes. Title of text volume with brownings, inside very clean. This is the first edition with a coloured frontispiece. One of the nicest copy we have seen. £ 350
C 05362 DIDIER & SEGUY Catalogue illustré des Lucanides du Globe
- 1953 - 223 p - 136 figs + atlas of 112 pl - In two volumes wrappers used. A rare copy with the rare frontispiece in colour. £ 225
C 00541 DIDIER & SEGUY Catalogue illustré des Lucanides du Globe
- 1953 - 223 p - 136 figs + atlas of 112 pl - in 2 cloth vols - a good copy £ 200

The example is not very good, and the book is old, and there are no originals left - only copies are sold out, but the overall impression of the site's pricing policy (http://www.insects.demon.co.uk) gives.

I saw it myself for example:
NAGAI & MIZUSAWA 1994 THE LUCANID BEETLES OF THE WORLD, 337, 155pl. color.
I held both a copy and the original in my hands (different friends bought it) - they only differed in the cover, inside the quality is absolutely the same. However, at that time I didn't even have 200 euros for a copy, let alone 400 for the original. So, hold it in your hands, admire it.

I was interested to find out who and in which country is not afraid to break (?) the rules. I haven't encountered such a thing yet. Although art albums that cost, for example, $ 200 when they were first published, are later reissued on completely legal grounds by another company (which naturally bought the rights to do so), for example, and at $ 70. But there will be a difference in the time of publication of about 10 years.

No, the copies themselves are sold. For example in Kaburek you can find :

CDM 09 Rigout, 1989: Cetoniini I. Pachnoda, Pachnodella, Dischista, Palaeopregma & Psacadoptera. Beetles of the World 9. 16 col. plates, 135 pp. Second-hand copy without dust cover. 2690 105
CDM 12 Rigout, Allard, 1992: Cetoniini II. Supplements to vol. I., Rhabdotis, Trichostetha, Atrichia, Odontorrhina, Simorrhina, Rhyxiphloea, Gametis, Phonotaeina, Hadrodiplognatha, Diplognatha, Apocnosis, Triplognatha, Conradtia, Piliopyga, Charadronota, Eriulis, Poecilophila, Porphyronota, Niphetophora, Niphobleta, Diphrontis, Pseudince, Metallopseudinca, Stethopseudinca, Heteropseudinca, Lamellothyrea. Beetles of the World 12. 14 col. plates, 100 pp. Second-hand copy without dust cover. 2690 105

Another thing is that this time I didn't get to have both a copy and the original on the same site at once.

I found out that such books are sold in the Kaburek Online store (Czech Republic), and sent him a question by e - mail about what kind of books they are, and whether any rights will be violated by such copies.
Waiting for an answer.

The response from Kaburek came quite quickly (after all, a respected store). No copies exist and no one sells them. What are called copies on the site are used (not new) copies of the book (usually without a super). In general, they sell both new and used cars.

"Dear friends,
We sell only original prints. "Second hand copy" means, that the book was already used by previous owner and lost its dust cover."

It has only just occurred to me that you have taken the English word "copy" as "copy" (i.e. not the original), but in this case it means (and for books especially) "copy"!
That is, no copies (=forgeries). No, and no one is selling them.
And if you tried it, it wouldn't be enough.
In those countries, the laws are respected! Yes, and the cost of making such a copy of the book would make its production unprofitable. smile.gif
