Caterpillars handling

Hello, the other day I came across a couple of Cossus cossus caterpillars, which I rarely saw in our area, and for this occasion I decided to save at least one for the collection.

The problem is that the caterpillars have never been dissected.

I found several articles and recommendations on the Internet, but are they suitable for this type?

1. There is a claim that after soaking in hot water, the skin becomes harder, is it worth resorting to this at all?
2. What is the best way to open an animal? One short cut at the back and squeeze, or a wide one at the side to get the insides out faster?
3. How to fill it and how to dry it at home? From the article I read that the skin is put on a glass flask with a narrow end (which I don't have, and I can't even imagine where to get it) and blown from a heat source. Are there any other options? Will a plastic handle work? Is a room heater suitable for drying?
