I suggest a category (on the eve of spring, and therefore the onset of the field season), in which, despite the appearance of entomological equipment stores, you can give examples of manufacturing from improvised tools, or by purchasing suitable accessories in less specialized stores (pharmacies, electronic spare parts, construction, etc.).

Desiccator.
Description:
Desiccator, also known as an aspirator, is probably the most popular tool for collecting small insects. Depending on the relative position of the tubes, three types are distinguished (see Fig.).

Notes:
The recommended diameter of the suction tube of half a centimeter when collected from the substrate collects a lot of garbage, especially from sandy soil, so sometimes use rods from a ballpoint pen, as an intermediate - from a gel (with a diameter like a medical dropper).
Materials:
A plastic bottle (for example, a Coca-Cola bottle), two corks, two lengths of tubing (copper, from a fountain pen, etc.), a square centimeter of fine-mesh nylon, tape, and a piece of polypropylene tubing (purchased in the aquarium supplies departments of pet stores and car accessories).
Procedure (registration form):
Cut off with scissors with mutually perpendicular walls part of the bottle (under the label); cut along; wrap tightly around the corks, making sure that one cork (scrolling inside) is removed with a little effort, the other sits more tightly; fix with tape; drill holes for the tubes; insert the tubes tightly; fix a piece of fine-meshed nylon at the end of the suction tube with fused edges with a small piece of polypropylene tube; we put on a polypropylene tube; we get an exhausterfrom which the material must be shaken out; we carry out possible upgrades if necessary: we replace the flexible tube with a pear with valves (it allows you to tighten fixing liquids and vapors inside-alcohol, etc.); we supply the suction tube with a piece of flexible tube (for example, from a dropper); this tube we complete it with replaceable tips of different diameters; we fix the cord for wearing on the neck (for example, from a badge)

Tweezers.
Description:
Tweezers, despite the simplicity of the design, are an indispensable assistant in analyzing the material.
Note:
The difference between those purchased in specialty stores, medical optometrists, and radio electronics departments can be very significant (6-10 times). And considering that in the latter, along with a large assortment, you can find both made of ordinary material - metal, non-magnetic alloys, plasmass, and more exotic ceramics, or combinations of metal and plastic. But sometimes tweezers (advice from older comrades) you can make it yourself using this template (Fig.).
Materials and tools:
Galvanized tin can; scissors; file or sandpaper (flat stone, water-soaked red brick).
Procedure (registration form):
We cut the washed jar by separating the lids and cutting the main part of the jar along; we unbend and apply scratching markings; we cut out the marking contour and bend the halves of the workpiece; we clean the edges with a file or sandpaper; we ensure the adjustment of the required accuracy of work; we fix the back of the tweezers with tape, insulation tube, rivets or bolts; as a variant of the manufacturing material, you can use plastic. by changing the design - a fixed insert is added between the parts of the halves, which regulates the width of the captured area.

if you accidentally forgot your tent at home or it sank along with the car, and there is a lot of snow around, then you can build an igloo. if there is no snow, then wrap a few trees with tape and you will be happy lol.gif
different cases happen "in the field" and everyone collected" on the knee " perpetum mobile, but let's do it without tweezers from a tin can mol.gif
for the exhauster-respect of course, but.... the main components need to be bought in several stores, and then also connected - double or even triple work is obtained-in short, henna is frown.gifeasier to buy "sopleotsosnik" and cotton wool at the pharmacy, so that sand does not fly into your mouth tongue.gif

In my opinion, the above design of the exhausteris extremely inconvenient: it is convenient to collect it, but then it is problematic to shake out the collected material into a bubble without loss. In my opinion, the most convenient exhusters are obtained either from "penicillin" vials, or from modern polyethylene biological tubes with lids of the appropriate diameter. They can be changed frequently without confusing the material from different stations.

a desiccator is what insects are soaked in.

In general, the desiccator is dried in what )))

And yesavno, when I tried to collect small insects in Moscow, I made an exhausteronly like the very first one in the picture, but only with a suction from the enema, with a non-return valve )) It worked perfectly. In general, the mouth is too fast, and if someone is sitting on dead meat or some other nasty thing, and the dust will still be absorbed.

I want to show you and tell you about my exhaust system.
All the same, but the point is in the tip-suction (4), which is attached to the tube-body (3), and at the narrow end of which a flexible tube (5) of a diameter sufficient for the passage of an insect can move with friction (shown by an arrow). The tube (1) inserted into the mouth is naturally covered with a mesh (2). The principle of operation is as follows: when the device is ready to catch an insect, the tube (5) is inserted into the body to a certain depth, thereby preventing/complicating the exit of the insect, which is inside after suction. And if necessary, the contents of the exhaustercan be sprayed out by blowing into the tube (1), BUT before that, by sticking out the branch pipe (5), matching its edge with the edge of the lower end of the cone, thus a funnel is obtained that contributes to the direction of movement of insects into the substituted vessel.

I can also take a photo, but everything is clear to me smile.gif

there are also simple homemade tweezers for decompression, so as not to suppress small animals such as soil mites - two needles with rings are fused into a plastic clothespin.

I've never seen a better one than my exhauster - the photo was in a different topic. even large insects fly in with a whistle, and small ones (chalcids) can be heard that they were caught by the sound of hitting walls or paper. Silicone tubes for it with an internal diameter of about the size of a large lab.pipette - at markets where plumbing is available. Of course, there is a substrate in the catch, but it is not bad to remove it by pouring the catch from palm to palm, and it is not hard work to pick up the catch with tweezers, sorting it at the same time.

Question: what is the best way to paint a white synthetic net in a dark color?

Question: how to reliably paint a dark white synthetic material for a net?

Counter-question: Why? But if you need to, you can ask around for fabric dye in household stores or Fabric stores (for example, at Leninsky Prospekt metro station)

23.03.2014 18:25, CosMosk

but because of the trope.insects are not as slow as "our" ones. Sailboats will turn to the side from afar,at the slightest movement of a large white net, for example. But not only them. Others will dodge or wriggle out of the way at any time. It's a shame to miss out on exotics that you will never meet again...
Aniline dyes - harmful, fade and get dirty, do not hold well on synthetics...

23.03.2014 21:17, Evgenich

Counter-question: Why?

There is another important point - you do not need to attract the attention of local residents! Sometimes it goes sideways. A painted net is poorly visible, i.e. it is safer to use it.

You can immediately purchase dark smile.gif

You can immediately purchase a dark one smile.gif

I don't find this one. It happens to be black as for nakomarnik - but for mowing it does not roll, and the size of chalcid is like an avenue out, only "catching butterflies". And the white one should also be checked on the fingers-stretch it between the clamped ones-so that the fibers do not part (although if they are strong, all the checked ones go), otherwise after mowing - holes without holes, the fibers roll down..

Gentlemen, well, garlic-color is not a question for a megalopolis, but for fast butterflies, it is not only color that matters, but also breathability, because before a fast-moving net, for example, from organza, the air plug also moves, which throws the butterfly away from the net, but the wings are not frayed about organza, you need an average and optimal option-as a solution to several types of net, taking into account mowing-obuchayetso at least 3 types, just some trouble for special connoisseurs!

Gentlemen, well, garlic-color is not a question for a megalopolis, and for fast butterflies, it is not only color that matters, but also breathability...

Yes, that's right! I did not mention this important point, but for butterflies there is an idea to make an ultralight net with a neck third just from the brushwood (also with a fringe inside - like the top), and the cone is made of microcellular and sharply tapering, so that they just get stuck in the cone, and do not turn out! This inversion of the butterfly was performed simply magically, it was only necessary to leave a gap between the net and the ground (if pressed) due to vegetation... That's a shame!!! - miss already tracked down and almost taken..
I had a backup option-an aquarium net inserted into the dural (small) with a hemmed cone-if they hit - for sure! But no - I managed to wave 3 times while the butterfly flies by)) Belyanki, by the way, on this small white cone back wrapped - sniff out what for ... here flutters)))

At the same time, the recipe for the Otmax net-handle-telescopic carbon fiber from fish. podsaka, can be up to 4 meters, the net itself is replaceable, on a duralumin oval or circle from the podsachek, connected on a thread-motni material-or organza-for butterflies, or Turkish type of tulle-universal for everything.Approximately as a result of work on bushes or sedge, once in 2 seasons you simply change the motni material to a new one,and the telescope helps, for example, to remove the necessary object from a wall or tree, with which the coleopter removed chlorophoruses from oak branches, and deer from trunks, is very indispensable.About mowing-separately, there the net has other requirements, Dima has it, if a small bear suddenly attacks, they can defend their lives, and stop the bearish one,but butterflies are poorly caught in it!

Question on the exhausterconstruction
It seems that the choice of construction and the composition of elements is dictated by the prevailing taxonomic affiliation of the studied group and the type of substrate.

2.http://www.zin.ru/Animalia/Coleoptera/rus/benexhau.htm
3.http://www.zin.ru/Animalia/Coleoptera/rus/tillyexh.htm
4.http://www.zin.ru/Animalia/Coleoptera/rus/exhauall.htm specialized for collecting parasites and necrophages, which dictates the use of pears. This design pumps an incommensurably smaller volume of air, which is insufficient to collect more mobile and large anthophils.
From the above photo, the internal structure of the exhalation exhalator is not clear (Fig.). From the photo, you can only determine the presence of a moisture filter (condensation forms from exhalation).

In my opinion, the best exhuster is a garden vacuum cleaner-a combination of a mowing net and an exhuster.

07.04.2014 17:58, antlook

Garden vacuum cleaner-blowers
From the description:
Structurally, the garden vacuum cleaner is very simple and consists of a motor, a suction pipe, a carrying strap and a bag for collecting absorbed garbage. Garden vacuum cleaners are usually equipped with electric or gasoline engines. The vacuum cleaner powerfully sucks, and with a reduced noise level works on blowing. Ideal for cleaning foliage, mown grass and coniferous needles and for sucking light garden debris from corners and ditches.
From user reviews for the intended purpose (in the garden and vegetable garden):
"Disadvantages. Quite heavy, hands get tired very quickly. It sucks sand together with the leaves, and this stops working. After the first day, it was covered, and I had to take it to the service. They dismantled it, poured out the sand, collected it, and earned it. It's free, but it will be a chore to carry around every time. During work, the dust is a pillar, you need to have separate work clothes and a headdress for this work, preferably sealed.smile.gif] If some twig gets stuck, you have to disassemble, and this is to unscrew 8 screws and tighten them back. If you still want, take any that is easier and cheaper, the difference is only in the manufacturer. "
Also:
" I also bought myself a fool. in the vacuum cleaner mode, it is of no use, but in the blowing mode, it may be useful to sweep leaves from the paths"
Around the city, I observed janitors who collected leaves in piles, it seems that time-based work does not affect performance if it is, only more noise.
So at first glance, something to disassemble a lump of torn plants and organisms at this price, even if you are a fan of devices does not appeal
