user posted imageThe largest butterfly in Europe is the pear-shaped peacock's eye, or large night peacock's eye, (Saturnia pyri Den. et Schiff.) from the peacock's eye family (Attacidae). It has a wingspan of 120 to 155 mm. This giant butterfly never eats in its entire life, but lives off the reserves accumulated by the caterpillar.
The picture was taken in the Astrakhan region.
