"What's the right thing to do, Japanese or Japanese? Or are they different species?"

S. Y. Storozhenko in the above-mentioned monograph cites the Japanese conehead as Ruspolia jezoensis (matsumura et shiraki, 1908) according to its original description. Synonyms of Homorocoryphus nitidulus, Ruspolia nitidula, Ruspolia nitidulus. It seems that Japanese was listed for some time as a large conehead, redescribed repeatedly, until it was separated into a separate species.

Yes, the neighborhood of Blagoveshchensk. On the other hand, all the photos above on the topic are also pinhole covers. Long-wings are very rare - at best once a year.

Interesting. I'll have to look at my own specimens of G. sedakovi obscura , see if f. macroptera is among them (I don't remember any more).

Do Sedakovs fly at all?? Can they actually fly? At least long-winged forms???

I've never noticed anything like this for them.

Gampsocleis glabra fly 100 %, at least when I was in nature, they flew more than once or twice. But G. sedakovi ... I remember it seems like they also used their wings, but somehow reluctantly and not so much soared, but rather fluttered. in general, they are probably more passive in this respect than their counterparts from the same genus.

Well, glabara is understandable, but not about Sedakov. Rather, you need to catch it yourself and try to " run " lol.gif

It seems to me that G. sedakovi is more like typical representatives of Decticus, living on open soil surfaces with sparse vegetation, under a canopy of grasses. Vmds of this "group" use flight as such, but they are rarely and reluctantly used for movement, under certain conditions (for example, in case of danger); in a normal situation, long jumps and flapping for short distances are used for movement. Such a species as G. ussuriensis is probably similar in the type of movement to the species from the Tettigonia river, i.e. climbing and jumping mode of movement, which results from the specifics of the place of residence, the crowns of trees and shrubs, respectively.

sorry, habitats, of course.

Long-winged sedakovs come across year-round and I did not check them for volatility, and short-winged ones do not even try to use their wings, they hit the ground with a thud, head first.
