Great photos! One interesting question - I can't find references to the correct spelling of the taxon: arvensis Hbst. or arcensis Hbst.
In bourgeois (Deuve, Brezina, Cazale) - arvensis, in the domestic last list of ground beetles - arcensis ??? frown.gif Who's doing a little bit of a hack? mad.gif

22.03.2007 9:24, omar

As far as I could understand, no one, for some reason both spellings are considered full-fledged and interchangeable. confused.gif

In my opinion, these synonyms constantly skip here and there.

22.03.2007 10:22, Archypus

Maybe the whole thing is an etymological error? How does "arcensis" translate? "arvensis "clearly means "field". But it lives mostly in coniferous forests

Dear colleagues:

I would like to ask all of you who are interested in carabidae.

The question is: where and how to place sokolari Born 1904?
Is it natio or subspecie?
Should it be assigned to ullrichi or fastuosus or even rhilensis?

Mr. Niedl, in is Monography of Czechoslovak species of tribus Carabini, states that sokolari Born 1904, is assigned to Eucarabus ullrichi ssp. fastuosus and furthermore to natio sokolari Born 1904.
If you look at World Catalogue of The Genus Carabus 1993 by Březina, you find Eucarabus ullrichi sokolari Born 1904.
And, the World Catalogue of The Genus Carabus 1999, states Eucarabus ullrichi spp.rhilensis and sokolari Born 1904 as its natio.
At the end of this chaos you may find updated world checklist of the genus Carabus 2004 that states only Eucarabus ullrichi and following four subspecies:

ssp. ullrichi Germar, 1824
ssp. rhilensis Kraatz, 1876
ssp. fastuosus Palliardi, 1825
ssp. arrogans Schaum, 1858

Thank you very much for your help.

Sincerely,
Jaroslav Mazanec ( Czech, Pilsen)

Carabus (Eucarabus) arvensis arvensis Herbst, 1784
Lviv region. Yavorovsky district, reserve "Roztochye" 20-30. IV. 2009
In some foreign catalogues of C. arvensis in the subgenus Carabus, I still find it difficult to say anything for sure about this.As for me, C. arvensis is closer to Eucarabus , I put the endophallus C. granulatus for comparison.

Carabus (Eucarabus) cumanus Fischer, 1823

Nevertheless, I believe that the latter form belongs to the subspecies Carabus (Eucarabus) ulrichi rhilensis Kraatz, 1876, but not to the arrogans. I have seen all these forms, the nominative is worth it, and I also present photos of all of them. Since there are forms of it with SV Serbia, where it intersects with arrogans, which is also known from SV Serbia. The difference between arrogants is a very strong metallic luster and smoothing. up to the complete disappearance of the tubercles, which is very clear from their nominative arrogans. Not everything can be believed from Brzina.

I won't argue. In order to have a firm opinion, you need a series of 30-50 pcs. from each locale. But nevertheless, geographically, the regions of capture of the above beetles are close, all not far from the typical place of description-NE-Serbia: Majdanpek
http://www.maplandia.com/serbia-and-monten...ija/ceremosnja/

Perhaps there is an individual or transitional form. A strong metallic sheen may not be visible in the photo, but it is there.
And they look more like ssp, which is close to the arrogans subspecies. fastuosus Palliardi, 1825, than on ssp. rhilensis Kraatz, 1876. It is enough to look at the heart-shaped pronotum elongated along the vertebra. wink.gif

Yes, I agree that we need a series.
Here are just the proportions of prsp. for the ssp subspecies. fastuosus Palliardi, 1825 extremely dancing see last photo in row
1 specimen. from Serbia 33 mm
2nd Hungary
3-4-from Romania, Banat
So that form does not draw to this subspecies.
True, the bags and shape of the aedeagus practically do not work in this species, or I do not see any clues, and if they are, then at such a level that then at least hundreds of taxa can be described in others. So far, only the external morphology works - and this is an unreliable sign.
Fastuosusov different costs about a dozen
