I was only bitten by Tettigonia viridissima when I was a child, when I caught it carelessly. By the way, you can not catch them at all, but just substitute your hand, they are curious, climb and are not afraid! And T. caudata is more timid, immediately flies away!!! But the most unpredictable grasshoppers, in my opinion, which if they sit on the hand and can bite for no reason, are Decticus Albifrons!!!!! smile.gif

Do grasshoppers bite? eek.gif Are you sure it was a grasshopper and not a praying mantis, for example?

You probably confuse grasshoppers with fillies, because they are popularly called grasshoppers.

Hello to all tettigonium lovers. At the end of August, we had some free days, and managed to film kaudat in Moscow...
picture: IMG_20170818_174554.jpg

This year we had a lot more of them than usual. And, of course, due to the abnormal summer, they all appeared a month and a half later than in previous years.

Meanwhile, 180 km south of Moscow (Near the town of Venev, Tula region). there were many viridissimas...But gorado was more of a cantante...There were also caudates, but the males were lost in the general sound "mix".

Conclusion: cold weather in May and June delayed the development of grasshoppers.
PS Viridissims are found south of Moscow over the river. Oka in the forest-steppe zone. It is not known what factors affect the spread of the species.
