I took all the pictures in August 2007
Heraclides (Papilio) thoas-ubiquitous
Urbanus proteus proteus - Tortuguero (Caribbean coast)
Ithomia heraldica and Greta sp. on ageratum. In Monteverde, there is an itomiida on each of these flowers!
Lantana is loved by heliconiids, like this
Heliconius hecale
Hamadryas amphinome. Hamadryas flapping their wings try to land on a fence or tree trunk
Anartia fatima is absolutely ubiquitous
There are a lot of parides in Costa Rica, and different biotopes have their own species. They do not tolerate strong sun and flutter in the shade on a stachitarfet or the same lantana. Top left is a female sailboat mowing under parides. On the right is Parides photinus. Bottom - Parides iphidamas
Caligo eurilochus flies only in the mornings and evenings in semi-twilight, when there is no sun and, accordingly, birds or bats.
Siproeta stelens - sometimes a massive species, as in the meadows of the national park Rincon de la Vieja
