Creophilus maxillosus (Linnaeus, 1758)
Quite ordinary staphylin from the Moscow region.
It is found mainly on the corpses of large animals.
This specimen was taken from a dead, semi-decomposed dog on 06.05.2005.
Here: Moscow region, Zheleznodorozhny district.

Another large and very common species with huge mandibles.
Ontholestes tesselatus (Geoffroy, 1785)
It is found mostly on manure, but not infrequently on carrion.
Caught on fresh horse manure on 15.07.1999.

Three interesting species of the genus Oxyporus Fabricius, 1775
Beetles are often found in "wormy" mushrooms, where they apparently catch a variety of larvae.
1) Oxyporus maxillosus Fabricius, 1792 Date of collection: 25.06.1999.
2) Oxyporus rufus Linnaeus, 1758 Date of collection: 09.07.2004.
3) Oxyporus mannerheimi Gyllenhal, 1827 Date of collection: 02.09.2000.
All beetles are collected under the same conditions (in mushrooms).
