Thank you so much for the photo. I allowed myself to turn it for convenience.

There is an indirect confirmation that OLSUFYEV Grigory Vasilyevich is depicted on it. After the death of Nikolai Grigoryevich (son of Grigory Vasilyevich), his daughter (granddaughter of Grigory Vasilyevich) found in her father's papers the same photo with two letters written on it: G. V.

And one more thing: in the photo you published, the surname Olsufiev is not indicated in the French transcription (Olsoufiev). It's probably German. And the pattern is not Malgash. Apparently this booth or album is not located in Madagascar.

A list of literature that is available in the library of the Academy of Sciences of Madagascar on file.

The search continues. There are some photos and stories, but so far everything is very raw for publication.

The file with the monograph probably needs to be uploaded to another file sharing site. Which one is more convenient for you?

Ilya, I welcome you! I send greetings from Yevgenia Nikolaevna, yes, I also found her. Unfortunately, she doesn't have much material about her grandfather either. According to my data, Grigory Vasilyevich kept in touch with French and German entomologists - there is no doubt that they have somewhere printed about him and probably have his scientific articles published in Madagascar. I am also sure that he kept in touch with the curator of the entomological department at the British Museum, the Russian entomologist emigrant Boris Uvarov (on erect wings), see the section "About Heroes of bygone times"...
Before at least something is published on Olsuf'ev G. V. you need to collect all the material together and analyze it, because there are many inaccuracies about it. For example, as the granddaughter claims-her grandfather was not a count at all!? Again, little is known about him as a military man... and why did he actually become an entomologist? And the most professional!!!
The most convenient file sharing service is Yandex.Disk.

About Olsufyev's grave.

I am currently in Antsirab.

Yesterday I visited a cemetery for whites. The caretaker informed me that the cemetery book was burned, and the burial plan was stolen by someone. The cemetery itself is in disrepair. Horror...

But there is also good news. We found the grave of his wife Natalia. In honor of which Olsufiev in 1916 named the beetle natalia olsoufieff.

I gave money to everyone who needed it. The grave has been cleared and will be monitored.

There is no other news yet.

Basically knowing the year of Olsufyev Grigory Vasilyevich's death

(2 (14) February 1875-17 February 1957, Antsirabe, Madagascar)

in the cemetery, you need to find the rows of that year of burial and search there...

And what about their Malgash University, in the archive - he probably worked for them and should in principle keep an account card or an application for his employment...

Then their library (department??) - there should be his publications there...

About the cemetery: I did the wrong thing - I recruited a team of boys who checked ALL the graves. There is no other one with Olsufyev. There are no signs on many graves. They were stolen. It is very likely that the ashes of Grigory Olsufyev are in the same grave as his wife. I am preparing a detailed report about the cemetery in my LiveJournal (so that you can understand more clearly how desolate it is).

2) According to my information, Natalia Olsufyeva spent the last years of her life in extreme need and sold things. So, for example, I know for sure that in 1969 she sold a collection of Mutillidae to a certain A. SEYRIG, which can now be seen in the Paris National Museum of Natural History under the authorship of this very Seyrig.

- there are no words, here it is a Europoid system of values - there is nothing to add and even somehow sanely interpret... except for morbid vanity and greed.

My translation:

KROMBEIN (1972) briefly described the stages of research of Madagascar Mutilles and elaborated on the work / monograph of Olsuf'ev (1938).

This monograph is undoubtedly of great importance for the study of the Malagasy Mutillidae. To write it, Olsufiev used his own captures, as well as the catch of his hunter Pierre Andria ROBINSON. In addition, A. SEYRIG, J. VADON, V. MELLIS, H. CHAUVIN or L. LAVAUDEN have specially collected rich research material for it. In theory, this material was supposed to get to SEMENOFF-TIAN-SHANSKI, but when he went blind, Olsufyev himself took up the research.

The publication showed that the work was not a simple review, but on the contrary, it turned out to be very rich and detailed. Today, it may surprise us that new taxa are described only in dichotomous tables. No type is defined, and Olsufiev doesn't tell you where he stores the material being studied.

According to Jean VADON, Olsufiev did not have any property. To survive, he was forced at the beginning of World War II to sell part of his collection. A. SEYRIG bought collections from the Mutilles family, and J. VADON from the Epilissiens family. Thus, Olsufiev's research material is currently in the Seyrig collection at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris.

But SEYRIG also did not have complete data on Mutillidae. In early 1969, a number of boards with Mutilles were found in Madame Olsufieva's personal belongings in a nursing home in Antsirab. They were attached with pins and under each individual there was a label with a location.

My comments:

It turns out that the Olsufievs left the USSR with the money of Tian-Shansky (Andrey Petrovich) in order to catch the whole of Madagascar. But then the year 37 happened and it became impossible to return. And as soon as Grigory Vasilyevich grew old, a real hunt began for his collection.

I wonder how it was possible to find "a whole series of boards with Mutilles"in the personal belongings of Olsufieva, who was still alive at that time. And where are they now?

Question to experts: how can you get a few dozen live specimens of Blastophaga psenes?

The problem is that I bought fig seedlings in Europe and have already delivered them to Madagascar. Only then did I learn that without the blastophagous wasp mentioned above, figs do not bear fruit. Do you think it's possible to bring these wasps here as a private introduction?

ps. cool I screwed up ((

I haven't been here for a long time. I have a new event in my life today. My wife and I are planting a vanilla and clove plantation on the east coast of Madagascar. With a total area of 15 hectares. So now the insects will be from there. I hope you enjoy it.

I have a rough idea of what will come out of this. I've already seen something similar.

picture: DSC_0167.jpg

What does this fly want? Maybe when a caterpillar eats a plant, juice is released from the leaf and the fly eats it?

picture: DSC_0168.jpg

picture: DSC_0172.jpg

She began to dig into the ground. I piled leaves and wood chips on top, I thought I would wait until the okuklitsa and take it to the container. I checked it yesterday , but it's not there. Carefully dug about ten centimeters - no ((Probably have to go for a shovel.

this is a fly from the Tachinidae - it is a parasite on such caterpillars, so if you find a caterpillar, then such flies will most likely come out of it frown.gif

Very similar to the caterpillar Acherontia atropos, the genus is exactly this. dig, there are few chances to get out.

in my opinion, the caterpillar of some butterfly from the family. Limacodidae

19.09.2018 9:13, Penzyak

What is interesting if you remove the parasite eggs from such a caterpillar - then it will almost always die anyway!??
What's new on Olsufyev??? Yes, such a person could quite keep a diary - maybe somewhere in the archives it is gathering dust for nothing...
