STIGMA, 24.03.2013 20:35

I've been thinking about creating a similar theme for a long time. And in general, satyrs form quite numerous groups in genera, it is worth considering to separate out Erebia, Pseudochasara, Hyponephele, etc., the most voluminous so to speak. If the moderator wishes, you can move the local oeneis from the Marigolds to this topic.
I was sorting out my Oenes, at the same time I decided to share it, maybe someone will help.

Well, actually I'll start.

View from the category of "northern classics" with the same geographical label:
The most massive Aeneid that I have ever observed in the Urals. They flew in any degree of (non -) freshness, did not let them get close to themselves, like the other three species, and therefore there were only two relatively easy ways to catch them (either to track down an approaching butterfly and catch it on approach, using the surprise effect; or, noticing the place where the butterfly sat down, under the cover of dwarf bushes). birches sneak up on the distance of a second throw, then scare away, while wielding a net):

Oeneis polixenes is distributed in the east of the Chukchi Peninsula! That sounds like Melissa to me. I myself have been to the Polar Urals three times and collected many hundreds of different enneis. And I also collected a decent amount of Oeneis polixenes in Chukotka.

Thank you for your comment!
I spent a very long time thinking about whether this copy (and their entire small series) belonged to the melissa/polixenes pair, and finally decided on the book by Lvovsky, Morgun (p. 133, theses 16-17 on bright dots clearly visible in the photo).
If you can recommend additional literature on them , I will be very happy, because the Aeneid system still seems quite mysterious to me.

I'll post Chukchi enneis for now, they haven't been shot from the Polar Urals, maybe later.

Now Oeneis bore mackkinliensis dos Passos, 1949.
By the way, the three males in the first picture, and the upper male from the third picture, I would refer to the North American Oeneis taygete Geyer, 1830. They are very different from the classic red Oeneis bore mackkinliensis dos Passos, 1949. They are darker, the apex of the forewings is sharper, the band on the underside of the hind wings is more contrasting.
The situation is similar with Oeneis bore bore and Oeneis ammon tatarinovi in the Polar Urals.
