I stand by the pond with my camera, frozen in place and staring at nothing. Guys are walking by:
"Does it bite?"
I'm silent.
"Does it bite?"
I don't say anything.
They're gone. I don't have a fishing rod.

Another time I stand in the same place again. There are two guests coming from the south.
"Biting?" Can I meet you guys, or we'll be bored?"
I'm silent. Gone.

I walk past a military unit, and there are a lot of logs lying around-a lot, recently the forest was cut down. There are riders flying around. I stopped and looked.
One soldier leans out:

"What are you doing there?"
"I watch the insects. And what is not allowed?
"I was just asking.
After a while, another soldier walks by:
"What are you doing there?"
"I watch the insects.
"Are you sure?" Otherwise, look, they'll take you away.
"Where to?"
- First, to the police.

I saw weevils on flowers near the pond, bent down and looked at them. A woman walks by with three dogs.
- Do you photograph landscapes? I also recently photographed the pond here, printed it out and hung it in a frame-it's beautiful!
"Yes, yes, it's beautiful here," I say politely.

I'm coming out of the woods. Tipsy guys come to the meeting:
"We see a lot of you here!" That you're always taking pictures of some filthy flowers. Shoot better than us, that's how beautiful we are!
I turn to them – one looks like Danny DeVito, the other looks like the singer Sergey Krylov…

I also have an insecto-phobic friend. This is sad and strange, because she is a veterinarian, and not a glamorous diva.

I remembered under the influence of the previous post... smile.gif

Somehow I stand and look at someone on the flowers. Cyclists are passing by a little way off to the side. Their dialog:

-"Oh, look! Nerd!

-"Imagine if you were like that...

It is said as if a botanist or entomologist is something bad...

When I was leaving the forest-steppe in Solontsy on July 10 with my camera, I met some children. Nothing, they asked me what I take pictures of, where I put them, so I answered. One boy said that he was interested in reptiles, said that he had 3 lizards at home, and that yellow-bellied animals were found in these places.

And something bad right away? ))
Maybe it meant " But imagine: if you were like this.. , it would be cool, otherwise you ride a bike, and that's all" lol.gif

Well, nothing, time will come, and everything will change for us, and we, and even more so for subsequent generations, will take pictures of butterflies and moss, and even in the most crowded places without thinking that this is something bad, and remember phrases like " - oh, are you a sho nerd?" with a smile that it's finally over ))

We have recently installed Sberbank terminals in our district. Cars arrive one after another to withdraw money. Cops often visit us, too. These devices are illuminated by interesting lamps very well. There is almost a forest and mountains around. There's also a convenience store nearby that sells alcohol around the clock... There are bodies lying around every morning, pissed on and beaten.
The nights are very warm. The experience on these ATMs is simply bestial!
- I'm thinking, - if the topic is boring, - maybe I should go there with a camera, stains and a syringe? lol.gif

On the Taldyk Pass, which is so famous for the subspecies Kreuzbergius simonius taldicus, local kids immediately run up to you and demand to see the "white butterflies". This is if they see nets =). And if they don't see it, they just climb into the car and try to see everything. I had to drive them =)

tankers and security guards at many gas stations on the Tambov ring road have long been good friends and suppliers of valuable information and material wink.gif
I was once at a friend's country house. an Aboriginal man who works as a gas station attendant nearby came to visit him and told us a story about how a "big black jeep" arrived and two people got out of it and crawled/ran around the gas station catching beetles and moths. When I told him that it was me and a friend , he thought about it, and then asked, " how much do beetles cost if you drive such cars?" smile.gif

I didn't want to open a new topic (I didn't find a corresponding one)... - Can someone tell me WHAT they meant by the highlighted phrase in the requirements of the macro contest?.. "Isn't that what I thought?".. lol.gif

Yes, I know what: an insect is nailed to a pulp in one way or another (or to death - this is how it turns out) and after that it gets hooked, for example, on a beautiful flower for shooting. Club-footed makrushniki, unable to accurately bring the camera to a live insect, but wanting to get a SHIDEVR, often sin in this way.

The idea is great! However, "Shidevr" will not work, a more or less interested person, and even more so who knows the nuances of biology, will immediately determine the infected, brought to a near-death insect-animal and how it was affected. Moreover, decent competitions always include professional biologists on the jury. So it's not very simple, as it may seem at first glance.
Although your opinion is quite common among surface observers of macro photography.

Not necessarily, if you beat it to a pulp, so that only your feet are on the substrate, and correctly, with knowledge, plant it, then no one will determine anything. Insects don't have facial expressions. Don't take it as a tip.

I was in the Magadan region with one entomologist, who sometimes "fell" into macro photography. He caught a butterfly, put it in a jar, and put it in an icy stream. After a few minutes, I took out a sluggish object, planted it on a flower or stone, and removed it.

It's still not fair... In nature, you need to shoot the real thing.

Frost is our everything! In nature, it will run away, you will catch horseradish later, and many moths can only be photographed in this way. And then, it doesn't help - Cosmopterix sp., for example, lies with its legs tucked up after cooling, and as soon as it recovers, it immediately takes off.

Boris Loboda (Barry) and I often went into the refrigerator or a little bit into the stain - for a few seconds.
How many beetles we have escaped, flew away and fell to the ground, which then were not found.

It's easier with butterflies. The net is at hand!

There are always exceptions to everything. smile.gif Sooner or later, you will still encounter an object that is difficult to photograph in real natural conditions wall.gif. So, then you can put it in the stain for a short time, and in the refrigerator, but I use these methods as a last resort, since photos in nature look much better than in artificial conditionswink.gif.

This is how it seems to you, you didn't communicate much with the moths) Tineids are one of the most sneaky creatures, almost always fly away not to the window next to which they are photographed (most butterflies tend to light), but inside the room, look for them there later. From the macro, Atypha pulmonaris was noticed for such bad behavior.

Yes, photographing tineid is something! They even sit down on the substrate, trying to get into some crevice!

The CO2 reactor will help you.

It helps a lot lately to answer the question, what do you catch with a net? Answer: mosquitoes for testing for West Nile fever, malaria, or Dengue. People usually immediately retire and no longer fit. Recently, the same answer in Sumatra "blew away" all the curious ones, since "Zika" is generally heard there and they understand the word mosquito not badly.

I'm watching the movie "Paradise Lake" right now... In the wilderness on the shore sits a boy of non-Russian appearance and sketches a caterpillar sitting in a bank. Next to it is a long-handled net and another jar. A couple approaches him and asks, " Boy, did you come here on your bike? (the bike is standing nearby) - The boy is silent. "Who do you draw?" "My mother doesn't let me talk to strangers," the boy replies. The couple leaves.
"The attitude of entomologists to ordinary people" is obvious. lol.gif
