An entomological expedition from Malawi returned three days ago. Unfortunately, several members of the expedition fell ill. One was hospitalized with tropical malaria.
I wish our colleagues (all lepidopterologists, dear people) good health and ask the forum members to join in these wishes.
Get well guys!

God forbid that everything would end well, the situation is very serious, treatment started late, complications are possible...

I managed to talk to one of the participants. It seems to be on the mend. thank god!
Fast recovery and no consequences

Thanks!
A second patient was hospitalized the day before yesterday.
But the condition seems to be stable.

We wish you a speedy recovery! Death to the damn sporoviks!

The second hospitalized person is not from Novosibirsk? I can't get through to him.
They were still after Malawi in South Africa for 2 weeks, where, as I understood, one of them picked up rickettsiosis (sheer garbage compared to tropical Malaria, but still a few days of withdrawal). However, we also have malaria...
A message to those traveling to the tropics: don't make a fool of yourself and hope that it will pass (not in the sense of Zimbabwean cholera), but either take normal antimalarial medications before, during and after, or carry them (and other medications, a thermometer, etc.) with you and take them when symptoms of the disease appear.

What if it weren't for lepidopterists, they wouldn't be respected? confused.gif

from Novosibirsk, Misha, from Novosibirsk. Yes, they made a fool of themselves. My friends went to Uganda - they put 8 vaccinations and of course ate loriam. Black Africa requires caution.

Does he have malaria or rickettsiosis? What's the status?

09.02.2009 13:40, Yakovlev

Yes, rickettsia, the state is OK, we were just chatting on the phone, they remembered you
too, I want to go to Africa! VERY MUCH

from Novosibirsk, Misha, from Novosibirsk.

I sent the wife of a Novosibirsk friend a PDF with a description of rickettsiosis (the causative agent of Ricketsia africae), if there is a connection, call, pozh., her to check the mail. Thanks!

Thank you for the choir news! So, I got immunity, unless, of course, they started to put pressure on me with antibiotics...

Just called the sufferer, the cat. was with tropical malaria-plasmodia suppressed, but on the background of malaria developed pneumonia, at least another week in the hospital will be. In this state, pneumonia is a very bad thing.
