Bring insects from Peru via Spain to Russia

Community and ForumOther questions. Insects topicsBring insects from Peru via Spain to Russia

Plantator, 13.01.2018 13:02

Greetings to all forum participants.

Once upon a time I was interested in entomology and collected a small collection of Russian insects. I especially liked moths and hawk moth. I had a dream to go somewhere in the tropics, pick up insects there.

A decade has passed... I haven't been doing insects for a long time. But in February I'm going to Peru for 3 weeks on business. Perhaps there will be an opportunity to fulfill a long-standing dream.

So here's the question. If I collect a few butterflies, beetles, and put them in my luggage - what is the risk and how risky is it? May the customs officers of Peru, Spain, and Russia be interested in insects, or will everyone not care? How risky is it? What should I say if they ask me what it is? The return route is from Lima to Madrid, and from Madrid to Moscow.

Thank you all for your answers.

Well, no one will tell you? Flew to Peru, a lot of insects fly.

If you check in your luggage, then in my opinion, everything will go smoothly.
However, I didn't fly in this direction myself, so these are just my thoughts.

Export by permit, however, very many exported and so on. But at least one case of detention and complete confiscation is known. True, they carried a lot... There was nothing about problems within the EU on the forum or in personal communication. Naturally, this does not apply to SITEC lists.

We carried insects from Peru to Moscow via Madrid in our luggage. There were permits, but we didn't show them, and no one asked. Customs officers from Russia like to check the luggage of people flying from South America for drugs.

Since the beginning of 2018, they have been detained and jailed totally for the export of any biological material. There's a fast-food chain called Bembos in Lima, so a Finn bought a hamburger there and wanted to take it to his girlfriend for a taste test. But a fly stuck to the hamburger (this is practically the norm for Bembos products). Customs officials considered it an attempt to export biomaterial. Finn is now serving his 11.5 years for attempted smuggling.

Can I see any proof?

Because 2 weeks since I returned from Peru, I was carrying half a sack of "biomaterial" - tops, animals, and all living things-no one even looked at the luggage. I dropped it on a check-in, and that's it.

They didn't even really look at the pen, although the weight was small, and Erfrance often likes to dig into the weight and size.

These horror stories come out all the time, recently there was a horror-horror with the Turks, then you climb to dig, and it turns out that they were either driven in a brazen way and almost by hundredweight, or they got drunk/stuck and bullied on the control, and all that sort of stuff.
Porridge from an axe.

But our people in Sheremetyevo can really dig in.
If they are from the EU, they are looking for sanctions, if they are from LA, they are looking for drugs, and you can even get them for some coca-cola candies bought in dutik!

Did the Finns not see hamburgers in 2018?)))
