I caught two harpy caterpillars and put them in a cage... Inside I placed a jar of poplar twigs... Somewhere 4 days intensively fed, tonight wove a cocoon, apparently pupating... Sobsno question: and when to wait for the appearance of imago? this season, or will the pupae fall into diapause?

Anything can happen, but rather, they will spend the winter.

And you can take it out of the cocoon? For the first one is spaleten between four matchboxes and one jar, and the second one is directly on the wall of the aquarium) They did not have time to collect bark)) And where can I put them later?

If the pupae are already solid and formed, then you can. And if you don't, you risk damaging it. If it is still a caterpillar, then it is not advisable to touch it at all.

It is better to wait a week, then pick it out, so that you can get up

Tonight I constantly heard rustling in the matchbox (the caterpillar brought the cocoon there), in the morning I decided to pick the cocoon... Who knew he was so hard. Took out a pupa, quite firm, looks healthy, constantly moves... I put it in a plastic box. What else do you need to add to the box, for the comfort of the pupa?

Hang the gauze! So that when she comes out, she can go somewhere and stretch out her wings. It is also necessary to maintain humidity so that the pupa does not dry out. Also, do not overdo it with humidity, because the pupa will simply rot.(Own observations)In principle, I still use peat at the bottom of the terrarium for breeding butterflies. It is not a bad litter and immediately with the appearance of peat, moisture of the required level appears. But it also needs to be sprayed from time to time.Peat can be purchased at any flower shop.Good luck.....

You shouldn't have picked the cocoon. Harpies often shrivel up without their cocoons. And for the winter, the pupa should be put in the refrigerator. It is possible in the same plastic box, Just wrap the pupa with paper in several layers, like a broken cocoon, so that it lies freely in it.
