Mosquito repellents

Agree, sometimes mosquitoes are very annoying. Especially in the country. There are many anti-mosquito products: chemical, ultrasonic, ultraviolet, "smell", gas... Do you have such funds? Are they effective? Are they safe for humans and pets? Advertising always says that everything is very efficient and safe. But is this really the case? Share your experience and advise on what devices should or should not be purchased.

Chemical substances are harmful to humans and other animals to one degree or another (applying to the skin or "smoking" plates and spirals, spraying in the air). A number of odors - the same chemical ones. I use "Off" creams and sprays myself. They help, I don't know about the others, but I think a number of others are at least as good.

Very good topic, just going to buy a mosquito repellent.

Keep in mind that ultrasonic mosquito repellents (periodically advertised keychains, squeakers, etc.) have zero effectiveness.

Why not? Ultrasound negatively affects the owner of the keychain (although only on him, but not on mosquitoes) smile.gif

In the old-fashioned way, it's more effective: clap-clap with your palms... smile.gif

Are UV traps also a hoax?

Well, you brought it together into one "w... with a finger", on the prefix "ultra" or something?"
Ultra " means something that is higher than the human-perceived band (light and sound in this case).
Don't confuse them! umnik.gif
P.S. And in the ultraviolet light, you can catch insects quite well (and bait mosquitoes too).
The main thing is to always wear dark clothes where there are a lot of mosquitoes (they will eat less, tested on themselves) smile.gif

Why is it negative? The keychain squeaks and, if the number of mosquitoes is low, it clogs their own squeak, i.e. calms the owner.

Yes, this is me to the fact that ultrasound is harmful (as well as ultraviolet light, however) smile.gif

It seems that no one really knows anything...

07.06.2010 17:14, Zlopastnyi Brandashmyg

I'm afraid you're right.
I've heard about the effective use of herbal reppelents, but I haven't used them myself. For example, a bouquet of tansy (I don't know Latin) placed by the bed supposedly keeps mosquitoes at a distance.

07.06.2010 17:16, NaaNa

we remember putting mint on the table from flies
about mosquitoes - they are afraid of the dawn of carnation

07.06.2010 20:17, Mantispid

and they are also afraid of the smell of wormwood...

I, on the contrary, get more in Moscow, in the apartment, at night (there is a grid, but it "plugs" the ventilation completely). Urban populations of Culex pipiens are so fast that it is almost impossible to catch one. In the country, large Edes, smaller Anopheles, or another type of Culex is slower and it is not so difficult to remove them. Chemistry any exclude of course. I tried ultrasound, but no results. It's a good idea to try repellent plants. I haven't tried it myself yet, but I'll try.

In the country, we save ourselves with homemade mosquito nets over the beds. Well, there's a grid on the windows, too.
The fumigator turned on the first and last time, almost poisoned stick insects and praying mantises. It's good that I woke up early in the morning and immediately aired it.
About tansy and other plants interesting.

Tell me, can this thing clear a room of mosquitoes???

04.06.2011 18:56, Vorona

I may have met the wrong mosquitoes, but they didn't really fly into the light. More like the smell of a human body...

Very good mosquito repellent for a long period of time,
I checked it myself and advise everyone
http://www.agriculture-safety.ru/bacticid.html
biological preparation, spray ditches near houses in the country or a flooded basement in a city house, and mosquitoes disappear in a week and do not appear for a month

16.08.2011 2:13, AGG

never under any circumstances! a habit from childhood, when I went fishing with my father. in the forest idesh 3 meters and a person is not visible, but if you smear some rubbish, then you will not surprise the fish. if something nasty is harmful to one biological object, then it is not a fact that it is also not dangerous for another species. now you have a record on fire, and after xxx years your spleen/liver and primary sexual characteristics have fallen off. and I don't want to think about children at all (((there are probably results of many years of testing, but no one will show them to the layman - the market/money
physical elimination! Forev's palms!
let's be more tolerant - they just want to eat, and not in order to "devour" like a person, but for better maturation of eggs wink.gif

I get caught by mosquitoes during the season. The fact is that the basement is damp and they are displayed there. How to poison them or what to smear so that they do not climb into the house. Can you tell me something sensible, and then the rapter already stank the whole hut.

I recently went fishing. The road to the lake goes through the forest(30-40min walk). For some reason, the previous visit to the forest with an incredible number of mosquitoes was a couple of years ago.
After 5 minutes of walking, hordes of hungry huge monsters greedily attacked me. It was amazing how quickly they managed to land and fill up with blood!
I do not use mosquito repellents, because after using them, visiting nature turns into a fight against headaches. Of course, there is no special harm from mosquitoes (not to compare with the remedies for them), but it is unpleasant.
Maybe something new and effective has appeared to combat them? Is it possible that a person only knows how to destroy himself subtly?

By the way, I will say right away that various protective clothing with huge humidity and +36 is unacceptable, I had to go in a T - shirt. In the fall, the mosquito problem disappears for me.

This year I experienced the bites of midges, well, or woodlice, I don't know, I was fishing, at that time it was very wet, overcast.. after a while, I found several red dots about 3-4 mm in diameter with a puncture in the center, and nothing was felt, but after a few hours.. oyo, this is worse than mosquitoes 100 times smile.gifVery terribly itchy, is it really sever always from midges like this? smile.gif

I also encountered it this year (for the first time!) with such abomination, and several times. Who exactly bites - and did not understand...

07.07.2012 7:13, okoem

If the bites are under your clothes, they are ticks. In Crimea, such non-sucking ticks are common. At first, just a small bite, and then it swells, itches, and hurts.

07.07.2012 12:14, Hierophis

No, my exposed areas were bitten, and from ticks there is a red spot?
Kharkovbut, and in what conditions were such bites observed? In theory, if these are midges, then you need running water, daylight, humidity.. I will clarify that I also can't say who exactly bit, since the bites themselves, it turns out, are painless, I brushed off a bunch of all sorts of midges, but I don't know if they bitten.

In general, I was interested - I thought that midges are the lot of the northern regions, and then it turns out that they live right under the nose smile.gif

Bitten in open areas of the body (legs, mostly-went in shorts...smile.gif). In the afternoon. I don't remember exactly in which biotopes. Once - if I'm not mistaken-really after a walk along the river.

07.07.2012 21:09, Kharkovbut

PS: It was in late May-early June. Not recently observed. smile.gif

08.07.2012 17:28, alex017

What is unpleasant is understandable.
At one time, we also had a lot of small midges, the bites of which turned into huge red spots for some. This year I don't think I've seen such animals yet.
Well, how to defend yourself? At least from mosquitoes. Maybe there is some kind of tool like a powerful ultrasound or something similar to turn on for a short time?

23.05.2015 0:54, trem

Chemical agents were rejected immediately, especially since the child is in the house. Neighbors suggested buying such a device-a lamp that destroys mosquitoes-sititek sadovy-M. Now we only use it in the country.

01.06.2015 19:54, Albatrosik

And we have a problem - how to protect yourself from mosquitoes while walking in the park. My son has grown up, and when he is sitting in a wheelchair, you can no longer hide him under the sideboard. Of course, we can't use "smelly" repellents. Walking in the city, in the very sun, where no mosquito can stand it-too. We have to use the most ancient anti-mosquito remedy-a fan. I drive away the evil creatures from the baby with energetic swings.

02.06.2015 5:39, alex017

Yes, mosquitoes are a universal disaster! And defending against them is the ultimate heroism! They didn't give you a medal there?

02.06.2015 9:44, vasiliy-feoktistov

IMHO. Nothing more effective against mosquitoes and other midges than DEET (Diethyltoluamide), man has not yet come up with. The fact that chemistry is harmful, no one disputes. But it is much better to work in the field to spray yourself than to drink half of your blood supply smile.gif
I use the domestic remedy "Reftamide Maximum"in the fields: http://sibiar.ru/catalog/insects_repellent/reftamid/ and I forget about mosquitoes completely. In those parts where I go, midges, mosquitoes and horseflies are full and there is often nothing to do without chemicals.

The field is clear, there are an unknown number of them there! After fishing in the OTP, my arms, neck, ears, and face were all mosquito bites. But one mosquito in the park is a tragedy, of course. The baby will be bitten by ai-yai. What kind of children grow up yannp....

25.05.2016 0:35, revegor

I generally do not see the point in repelling mosquitoes, because their number does not decrease. I bought a mosquito killer sititek sadovy-m at my dacha, no radiation and no harm to humans.

Not a debut. Exactly one year before (+/- a couple of days) "sititek sadovy-m" was already advertised somewhere here.
