Since now all online users will get "online" status marks what's seen at the "Authors" page. So, you may always get to know if someone you need is online at the moment. Later users will be marked like this everywhere, in comments, photos, etc, not only on the "Authors" page as now.
P.S. The "online" status mark is kept for no more than 5 minutes since last user's activity who logged in with his login name and password.
