We decided to take a walk around Tambov today. There were no special hopes, the more pleasant the result was. Everything was burned out in the sun, and given that almost all summer there was no rain, nothing else was expected. The temperature is about +20, the sun was noticeably hot. Day butterflies: Pieris napi, Colias hyale, Polyommatus icarus, Coenonympha pamphilus, Issoria lathonia, Vanessa atalanta, Polygonia c-album. Mowed down a few leaf blocks and cows.

Cafe "Two apple trees" - always fresh cider for admirals and anglwings. The clientele, although drunk, is very cheerful and nervous.
picture: DSC02820_resize.JPG

There are a lot of exuvians of some cows on the birch tree, I collected a larva and a couple of pupae. Let's see who comes out.
picture: DSC02828_resize.JPG
picture: DSC02839_resize.JPG

I visited the cherished clearing of 30*10 meters in size. Last month, I mowed down the elephant flea Pseudorchestes circumvistulatus and the Bruchidius marginalis seed from the tansy, and last year I mowed down the leaf beetle Chrysolina eurina from the same clearing and tansy. Part of the clearing was burned out in the sun, the second part was burned by someone. A single green tansy bush remained in the shade of the trees. A swing of the net on it brought me another female Chrysolina eurina!!! The third Tambov specimen of this species. And when? October 9th!!!
picture: DSC02855_resize.JPG

At the end of the road, we were waiting for a dry land with several willow bushes growing on it. It was actively eaten by newborn Chrysomela tremula (the elytra of most beetles are still soft). I took a small series of this infrequent beetle.

This is the end of the season. Now straighten - straighten - straighten wink.gif

ps Thanks to Ilya U, I managed to find out that I missed a dead male Diurnea lipsiella

pps installed something

Continuation of last night's report. Licking my lips on the Moscow Ptilophora plumigera, I decided to shine after work on the cherished glade. On one side - a field, on the other-an oak-maple-lime-birch-aspen forest, with a dense undergrowth of hazel. While waiting for darkness, I took a walk to the cherished oak tree, where the ropes that were once very fragrant bait were laid out for a month. So much time lie in the sun, under the rains and winds, and still noticeably podvanivayut. Well, where without them-a bunch of ubiquitous hornets! Around 19 o'clock it got dark and life began to boil on the ropes:

On the screen was already a completely different composition of the population. Dozens of Poecilocampa populi males !!! And, approximately, from half-past eight went and not so frequent females.
Well, the result of night gatherings in the photo. The top 2 rows - from the ropes, the rest - from the screen.
Interestingly, with a fairly warm night of +14C, complete calm and cloudy clouds, not a single speck!!! Generally N-I-O-D-N-O-Y !!!
Ptilophora plumigera, unfortunately, did not draw eek.gifWell, we will look further.

This year we also had very few moths, and there were practically no leafworms. But there were (and still are) a lot of different scoops. We had a very unusual year in entomological terms.

Springtime... I couldn't post the photos in time, because they didn't join the site for a long time, and then I went far away for a long time.

picture: 01.jpg
Here in this area of the Lipetsk region, on the border with Tambov, we went to catch moths on May 3 of this year.

picture: 02.jpg
Our team, from left to right: Vladimir Egupov, Vadim Zaritsky, Jan Urbanus and Ilya Kostrikin, behind the scenes-I: Yuri Berezhnoy (under the lit pseudonym-Bahaev). Everyone is Lipetsk, everyone except Jan is a lepidopterist, and he likes beetles.

picture: 03.jpg
The moon was shining...

picture: 04.jpg
The lamp was shining...

picture: 05.jpg
But there wasn't much flying at her because of the moon and the cold.

picture: 06.jpg
Zaritsky stared at the blank screen like a Mephistopheles.

picture: 07.jpg
Ilya was a little more active...

picture: 08.jpg
Jan had better luck, because sometimes he caught some beetles.

picture: 09.jpg
I put on a performance with Covid in mind.

picture: 10.jpg
Yeah, bad luck...

picture: 11.jpg
In the morning we took a walk through the forest...

picture: 12.jpg
We found the longest clearing where we will catch next time.

So what came from the butterflies: Orthosia gothica, Orthosia inserta, Pannolis flammea, Semioscopis steinkelneriana, Lycia hyrtaria, Biston strataria, Paradarsia consonaria, Ectropis crepuscularia (Kostrikin's list), plus a few banal species.

And in the summer, this clearing gave out caterpillars Senta flammea, Anarta myrthili, and not individually, but very much in the number of five copies of Autographa pulchrina, which is quite unusual for the Black Earth region, I would say. Next season we will continue without making a wish.

From nefiga to do went with a friend to his dacha. In the spruce-pine forest. The scope, of course, was on regelaria. What if?! Yesterday the forest looked something like this:

What, the photos are not attached again?!

A search of the fir trunks did not lead to anything. But at least we took a walk in the woods...
At dusk, I turned on my light system. The sky is overcast, +5 in the yard.... the first canister of an anti-virus vaccine arrived. Well... and that's it! At eight-thirty in the evening, the clouds abruptly dispersed and the moon crept out into half the sky. That was the end of it.

Today we went for a walk in the woods again. The snow has significantly decreased. Around the trees, in sunny places, the soil thawed... regelaria was not found again. Sadness. But in the forest we took a walk!

Tell me, in what area in the summer it is best to go for kuzki (Anisoplia)? It is advisable to collect not only the three most familiar species(austriaca, segetum, agricola), but also others (campicola, lata zwicki, brenskei, deserticola, etc.

I met a population of mnemosyne in the suburbs of St. Petersburg. It is listed in the Red Book of St. Petersburg as an extinct species in the region. The last time a single specimen was recorded was in the 1970s.

In the suburbs? Interesting. Closer than 65 km to the south of the city did not meet. But there's an annual one.

We went to the Don, to the Kalach district. We went for a ride on the steppe, chalk gullies, etc. They tried to shine at night, but most of the nights were subzero. The main task - to take a break from the city and people, to go fishing a little, was completed smile.gif

- Do you transport them home in this form? Then soak without delay?
"Auxiliary pins keep the wings from shrinking?"

We drove cars so that when moving they did not crawl and did not break (mustache in the first place) on the sides with needles and fasten. On mattresses and in bags, too, you can, but the material on the tattoo straightens out better and definitely does not spoil.

- OK. I think that you will not rush to straighten it right away. So, in any case, you will soak it.

Someone is quite sad with the reports on the European part of the Russian Federation. I'll update the theme a little.
I dropped by my favorite swamp this afternoon. There were fresh microgams and cordigers. B. euphrosyne flew out. And so.... nothing special. You can't catch up with the shovel — they run around like crazy. But I still took a couple of non-standard features.

Good day to all! I've been sitting on the site for a long time, I finally decided to register and share with you my recent collection of satirides, otherwise, it's really a lull. Butterflies are now flying out a lot in the long-awaited heat, especially happy pigeons. Surprisingly, I haven't seen any hives this year.

It's nice when new people show up. We have a lot of urticaria, as well as anguloptera.

There are also a lot of angloptera, in the spring thistles flew en masse. We've been waiting for the heat, waiting, now we don't know where to go from it)) But there are a lot of butterflies

Well, you won't have the heat for long - another week, and then.... So enjoy it. But the mushrooms will trample....!!!

20.07.2022 21:57, Andrei Dolgikh

Absolutely not hot for the top of summer. Almost daily rains. The species diversity of diurnal lepidoptera tends, if not to zero, then quite close to that. But the number of rutabagas is simply off the scale - hundreds of them accumulate on all more or less wet areas of primers. It even became interesting, what did all this horde feed on?! We have a long history of problems with wild cruciferous plants.
