Tepid weather, daily thunderstorms. Novgorodians finally woke up. The puddles have dozens of swallowtails, single mournbirds, clouds of anglewings and peacock eyes. It's even more fun at night (pictured)

What kind of generation is this? In the Moscow Region, the first generation is timed to coincide with the junction of May and June (see http://insectamo.ru/rhop/34-rhop/papilioni...ides-podalirius ). A three - month break, and also very much to the south, isn't it the third?

03.08.2022 18:34, ИНО

Why not the second one? These are not mayflies, they will not die in the evening.

I have two generations of podalirium flying in the north of the Ryazan region. But this year, the first generation was delayed due to cold weather, and the second has not yet flown, although it usually takes off somewhere in late July.

Approximate species composition of what is currently flying at night in the Novgorod region. I didn't take hawkmoth, kay, grass and hawthorn cocoonworms. I was struck by the number of fulminations - up to a dozen were constantly beating on the screen. But those who calmed down could easily be taken by hand. Lichens, milkweeds, and ringed cocoonworms have almost disappeared. In general, last night was the night of the khokhlatok-by one o'clock in the morning, the screen was literally moving from them, and it was very difficult to pick out something small and worthwhile from this mass. On the bait-it's disgusting to look at-some single pyramids and not a single ribbon.

August, it's a bit sad in the fields. If anything flies, it is either wintering, or already very tired of life. There were birch marshmallows and still fly their oak counterparts. Finally, thanks to fraudatrix, dia was found near Novgorod. Oh, what I just don't have it..... It remains only in May not to pass by.

The first more or less warm night - as much as +29C was after sunset. But... as always, there is always a catch - at 22: 30 the night lamp mad.gifcame on in the sky, not covered by a single cloud wall.gif, and around midnight everything was covered with an eerie fog, just like in the movie "Mist". Barely in this haze to the base 3 km almost by touch overcame. Well, what came, came ...

There's also a dinosaur in the world. Not only did I have floaters trying to break through the screen from the summer, but terribly curious hornets, so also this ... And who is this guy anyway?

Although the heat has come to us, but at night it's still not very fun. The lamp is now being flown mainly from tapeworms-C. fulminea, pacta and fraxini. Metalloids - A. triplasia, M. confusa, D. stenochrysis, L. c-aureum (today I came, completely fresh), A. mandarina and excelsa, and P. festucae. From the scoops - a mass of some of the Hydraecia, Diarsia, Agrochola and Xanthia. X. solidaginis and N. interposita appeared. Crested whales are mostly Clostera, Notodonta, Ptilodon, and Pheosia. Ph. bucephala arrived today. From tokopryadov-en masse flies T. sylvina. Just a giant female came.
The local frog kzhe as for work comes to me on a lantern. From my observations , after she stuffed the sixth pheosia into herself, I realized that her ass wasn't in some other dimension. Well, it can't fit so much biomaterial into one frog!!! At the same time, she apparently did not recover at all.
The photo shows typical inhabitants of the screen.

Well, the summer ended with August's terrifying heat. From tomorrow, bypassing September, a normal October will come. So, at least, forecasters said.
From the last night's gatherings - a screen stirring from the mass of caddisflies and nasty squeaking midges. Midges are everywhere-in the nose, in the eyes, in the mouth and in the ears. Lots of bedbugs in all sorts of colors and sizes. Lots of water-loving beetles. Even 2 cool barbels came in. The main mass of scales is Xestia c-nigrum, Diachrysia stenochrysis, Dysstroma citrata of various colors, Allophyes oxyacanthae, Ennomos ssp. On the bait - all Catocala fraxini.

Yes, Saperda perforata, and quite a decent condition, it's a little late (the very end of August)...

Hello everyone. Today I returned from fishing in the Astrakhan region. The heat is terrible, I love the heat , but not so much. In the shade +37 and above. It is useless to shine the entire screen in Loxostege sticticalis and hornets. From interesting only Utetheisa pulchella for which I had to run with a cap on the road for perch.

I forgot about another find.
Going home after catching perch, in the same place, I found under the poplars a dead goldfish of impressive size 22mm., I thought that one of my fishermen had dropped the lure. If someone identifies it, I would be grateful. Eurythyrea aurata?

Well, that's it, kick-ass, summer is finally over. Autumn has come. Yesterday it was still sunny and even hot in some places, and today a fine drizzle is falling all day. Yesterday, I spotted the first and so far only flight of Doomy. The screen is full of sadness. With the exception of the fraxini crowd, everything else is represented by these five species.

I put the potato storage facility into operation today. I was stunned by the number of urticaria, polychromatica, peacock eyes, libatrix, located for the winter in all nooks and crannies, and just on the walls. There are hundreds of them!!! It feels like they've flocked from all over the area.

Indian summer is gone. During the day, only peacock eyes and polychrome flowers fly. It's a bit more fun at night, but it's not dense in terms of species composition. What can you do, it's October in the yard. The cranes that trampled the fields for a month stood on their wings. Sadly.
It's more fun in the fields - people are harvesting carrots. In the potatoes that are not yet picked, champignons were popped.... There are no mushrooms in the forest!

Today I met on one side the most banal butterfly of the Admiral. But this was the first overwintered specimen in many years of observation! But the burdock is also from the genus Vanessa occurs in early April almost every year

You would still write where. We've had admirals flying with io for a month now." But I saw a thistle only yesterday, and it was small, intact, and the only one. Which makes the version about a long-distance flight from warmer climes somehow doubtful...

So my name seems to indicate the place-Lipetsk. to be more precise, S. Kosyrevka. And I know that admirals spend the winter in more southern latitudes.

13.04.2024 15:26, А.Й.Элез

In 1995, in the immediate vicinity of Moscow, the admiral flew already in mid-April over solid snow and minimal (along the southern edges) thawing.

14.04.2024 21:45, ИНО

Interesting! If there are any butterflies flying over the snow, it is only moths, and then rarely. And nymphalids appear only when it is already specifically vzharit.
