These beavers(and maybe someone else) I have in the Ruz district. already all the willows on the banks have been mowed down!!! weep.gif Right at least at night with a gun to go, machit these creatures! mad.gif

Why so cruel? It doesn't suit a biologist... And by the way, the trees felled by them (in particular, aspens) are excellent natural baits for xylobionts - barbels, goldfinches, Eucnemidae, and so on.

It's just that beaver fur has ceased to be valued to the same extent as it was 25-30 years ago. Onegin, with his beaver collar glistening silver in the frosty dust, would not have looked a dandy today, but an old-fashioned individual. So the beavers multiplied beyond measure. Their numbers, perhaps, really need to be adjusted, despite all their cute hard work. Dams-after all, what kind of dams are being built!

Last weekend I was behind the Luga landfills on the lake. Fake.

The place is hard to reach but visited and actually linden (broad-leaved and drift species). There are military units around.

Caught in the light: something flew all summer. There's even a Catocala fraxini.
As always flies, caddis flies. There were also Ichneumonidae, including the Opheltes glaucopterus I needed.

During the day, too, we managed to shoot and collect a lot

Hello colleagues, I finally got to the computer ...
Chronicles of catching insects in Krasnodar and its surroundings
Part one-Botanical Garden.
Like all students of the Biology Department of Kuban State University, I was sent to take an internship in Bot Garden. The word practice means weeding, cutting down, plowing everything that grows out of place...
After a few days of work, I thought: we need to combine business with pleasure, i.e. I set a few traps (about a hundred) shuffle.gifin the groves of the garden and around reservoirs, in 10 days a lot of C exaratus got caught in the traps(I counted up to a hundred, then got lost)wink.gif, 1 With cumanus, several rather large black nebria, several pecelus, 2-3 types of pterosticus, trehusus, broscus.
Did you manage to collect 5-6 species of Harpalus, 3 species of amar, one ophonus and pseudophonus with your own hands? I was also pleased to find a cool khlenius, which I still can't identify, leveling the field after the plow into bronze, this is not aurata or metallica, 2.5 cm, which, maybe, I don't know . The nets were not left idle either , as there are many flowers in the garden… I caught 2-3 types of pigeons, 2 types of yolks, one is crocea, the other I don't know for sure, maybe such a local hiala or erata, I caught it for the first time .... They filed a complaint! And a fathead, most likely Pyrgus malvae.
Part Two surroundings-Goryachy Klyuch
For those who don't know, Goryachy Klyuch is a small town in the foothills of the Caucasus, the hills around it are covered with broad – leaved forest.
It was in this city that I managed to skate several times, fishing lasted from morning until the last bus left in the evening. The first time I arrived, I set a few traps, I must say, very poorly, frown.gifI did not cover them with anything, so they were attacked by leaves, and they were flooded to the brim with water weep.gif. Of course, almost nothing came across weep.gifexcept a couple of egzaratus, one cool pterosticus and a lunar copra. Just a dozen times I regretted that I did not take the net, large circe fluttered around, at the sight of each one I called myself different bad words, but still managed to catch one with my hands, perfectly whole jump.gif, and this was the end of the first trip.
But good results were obtained by collecting pens, fishing along the river, exploring all the decays formed by streams. The second time I came, after checking the traps, scolding myself for my stupidity, a little disappointed, I went to collect material, I managed to catch several Leistus sp. 3-4 species of pterosticus, 2 species of agonum, several species of bembidions, the ubiquitous Chlaenius coeruleus.
Walking along the stream, stirring up stones, I did not notice how I came out to a small, 3-storey house, from where 4 healthy dogs rushed at me with barking...
The dogs got off with a slight fright, mad.gifbecause when I waved a little stone, I began to quietly retreat. It turns out that this was a private area, but I never managed to see the owners of these animals(maybe this is for the best) .
Returning, I decided to tear off a piece of bark for the sake of curiosity, and among the scattered agonums I was sitting – Cychrus starskianus, I saw a live jump.gifone for the first time !
The next time I went along one of the branches of the river and managed to catch Chlaenius vestitus, they were sitting in burrows under rocks, 5-7 beetles each!
I also caught pterosticus, leistus, trechus, bembidion and some other ground beetles, I can't imagine what kind they are! I also caught some crabs under the rocks. On the way back tsykhrusy did not come across...
I went again a week ago, in October, and the departure of Colias crocea began! I got myself some fresh copies.
I decided to take a walk to the village, where I had already caught archiplectes. On the map, without considering the scale, I decided that it was only 3-4 km to go. In fact, I had to go 10 in one direction, but I did not regret it, along the way I came across pterosticus, agonum and two nebria, the latter was especially happy, when I reached the place I searched all the places where I came across archiplectes, but nothing came at all!
That's about it... shuffle.gif
I hope you don't get tired of reading.

Powerful, however! I'm surprised you haven't found a new species yet wink.gif
Waiting for good news smile.gif

13.10.2007 10:12, Dorcadion

Maybe I did wink.gif
We now need to determine a lot of material.
When I get to the institute's collections...

How many copies did I get in total (approximately)?

Not very much about 500-600 most of it was collected by hand shuffle.gif

But this is not the end, winter will not be here soon wink.gif

It is easy to deal with flooding, you need to make several holes or slits (of course, if you do not use glass containers) in the wall of the glass.

13.10.2007 21:58, omar

I told you to leave me at least one bug... weep.gif Gentlemen, I know him, he can set 120 traps in 3 hours! I have on Rublyovka! Soon it will be useless to go to the Caucasus for beetles....

13.10.2007 23:41, Frantic

Dim, now all Cichruses in our Caucasus (I don't know, maybe in Transcaucasia there are some species of their own) are reduced by K. Makarov to one species-Aeneus and its three subspecies. There is no reason not to trust Makarov, so..

You can also make a lid from the bottom of a mayonnaise jar. And the rain does not fall so much and it is more attractive for beetles - they will climb under it as a shelter wink.gif

Gorgeous!!! Today I picked out Chrysobothris igniventris Reitt from the collection of my "student". from the Ul. region. A new view for the region, and even what!!! smile.gif

Yes, it's good for them, but we still have snowdrifts, the season will be open at the earliest in a month frown.gif

It's not all that deadly. I just got back from nature (and I live more northerly than you). Several species of flies, a male andrena (such a bee), several species of small elephants in the litter (one is definitely from the genus Sitona) and even a leaf beetle Cassida (also in the litter).
But I also envy Ripper....

..and how much litter did you have to shovel? and how? just by hand, or passed through some kind of sieve? Here in Losino-Ostrovsk. park (Moscow) most of the soil is still under a hard crust of melted snow.

Yes, there is no day to day here, I got out on Sunday-I thought I would pick at the bark, in the leaves...then the snow began to fall, and I was knee-deep in snow in the forest at-5 and left with nothing...and yesterday the temperature was already above zero and there was no snow at all: -)

He moved his hands stupidly. We have a sunny day today and the southern slopes are already available for exploration. There is almost no snow on the outskirts of St. Petersburg.

It looks like Cucujus haematodes. The view is not sure, but it is definitely a cucujus (flathead). We have just time to look for them under the bark.

Gentlemen, I have a question about early spring species.Has anyone caught (or is catching) birch silkworms (Endromis versicolora) somewhere in European Russia? We should be leaving soon."..

They will go when the snow comes down and starts to get hot. At the moment when the birch leaves start to hatch.

12.03.2008 10:42, RippeR

can you really catch them?? Or have they not been seen for years? and then there is one place where I can look for them, but what if??

12.03.2008 11:07, Alexandr Rusinov

2Ripper: In our region, birch silkworms are not very rare, in early May they fly quite well to the lamp, both females and males.

13.03.2008 20:39, Guest

Thank you all for your answers on birch silkworm. And then it comes to our Kharkiv region with the southernmost edge of its range-well, I can't find it in any way-there are not enough birches. We will have to go further north this year - to the Orel and Tula regions. At the same time, and mourning to spoil...

Analyzing last year's collections with soil traps from the Manturovsky district of the Kostroma region, I was surprised to find Pteroloma forsstroemi Gyll. I really didn't think to meet this species... Other interesting species include Cicindela maritima, Pterostichus mannerheimi, Ophonus obscurus and others...

And others too write

14.03.2008 12:19, Alexandr Rusinov

This place seems to be less affected by "caring human hands" than most other areas of the central region, so there are well-preserved grasslands and coastal biocenoses that have been severely degraded elsewhere. Silpha tristis and Calatus fuscipes (these species are rare and sporadic in the Yaroslavl region) are present in the grasslands, and on the sandbanks of the r.Unga Cicindela maritima ( no C. gibrida detected), Harpalus flavescens (many), several species of small fry (not yet identified). I still continue to analyze the fees, if I find anything else interesting , I will write.

Be sure to write it. Have you pinpointed Pterostichus mannerheimi? This species was discovered only this year in the Moscow region

14.03.2008 13:33, Alexandr Rusinov

Pterostichus mannerheimi is defined precisely and unambiguously. Manturovsky district of the Kostroma region is located much to the east of the Moscow region, apparently this species is quite common there.
