Exactly, the year is unfavorable. For several years in a row, Limenitis populi flew out at the end of May, and this year it was 3 weeks later.

I only met him the first day before yesterday. And so far - the only one. And today in general the whole day - whether sveta with the end came, or the end with the light..... the whole day-showers, thunderstorms, hail, squally wind.

Today's hunting in Novgorodchine near Pskov region. Smolka rules! Even in cloudy weather, everything is buzzing and swarming. Mostly bumblebees are the bee kingdom. One bumblebee also flew in - I didn't catch it! Here, in broad daylight, a bedstraw hawk moth hoed tar. The photo shows what was fed on tar and what could be collected without a net. For the definition-thank you!

For the definition-thank you!

For quickness - in Russian: argus, Amanda, glycerion, selenium, and probably Aurelia. The latter likes to fly in dry areas where there is tar.

Yesterday, the first warm July day happened - the thermometer reached +25 yes.gifAnd just managed to make a trip to Pleshcheyevo Lake, to see what is happening with the entomofauna and flora.
The results are strange (to say the least): a lot of May beetles in 5 minutes on the sunlit bushes counted more than two dozen, mostly males. image: _______. jpg
At the beginning of the twelfth, they actively crawl on leaves and twigs, eat, and dry themselves after the previous day's downpours. On the forest road near the puddles clusters of poplar tapeworms. picture: _________.jpg
In general, the daytime" scales " are the ones that should fly in the first half of June - golubyanka Amanda, mother-of-pearl tavolzhanka and Selena, black-brown eye, meadow hay... although there are also hawthorns.
Beetle is also mostly "June" - for example, nutcrackers, some hidden heads... I don't think I caught anything particularly interesting shuffle.gif
"Tops" are also seriously late - oregano and St. John's wort haven't bloomed yet, I looked for strawberries in the clearings, but I didn't find any ripe berries...

Yes, something in general some shnyaga shnyazhnaya.... We also have admirals flying.. There are a lot of strawberries, but they are all mealy like potatoes, sour and tasteless.

I went to Popovka yesterday.

Something golyak full. There are deer, of course. Yes, and a little bronze found. But the year before last, around this time, there were crowds of all sorts of sawyers, bronzes, beauties... I was only pleased with one black calf-Neatus picipes, a new species for my collection.

By the way, Lucanus cervus monomandibularis I smile.gifwonder who tore off his mandible?

Belated report on the Sunday trip "to the fields". South of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, a section of the Pleshcheyevo Lake NP. The weather was changeable - at first - overcast and drizzling rain, then the sun, then began to "threaten" with gusts and falling trees, so I had to quickly "round off".
Most interesting were the collections of flower barbels from blooming snyti on the edges and forest roads.
I've never collected such a mix before:
Alosterna ingrica Baeckmann, 1902) - one piece!
Alosterna tabacicolor (DeGeer, 1775) - even if you eat your ass...
Anastrangalia sp. (haven't looked yet) - several males and one female
Anoplodera sexguttata (Fabricius, 1775) - a series
of Judolia sexmaculata (Linnaeus, 1758) - one piece
of Leptura (Leptura) aethiops Poda 1761 - three pieces
of Leptura (Leptura) annularis Fabricius, 1801 - even if you eat your ass...
Leturobosca virens (Linnaeus, 1758).- one piece
of Stenurella melanura (Linnaeus, 1758) - several males and one female
Stictoleptura (Stictoleptura) maculicornis (DeGeer, 1775) - even if you eat your ass...
Dinoptera collaris (Linnaeus, 1758) - two pieces
of Gaurotes (Carilia) virginea (Linnaeus, 1758) - one piece
of Pachyta quadrimaculata (Linnaeus, 1758) - even if you eat your ass...
Rhagium mordax (DeGeer, 1775) - one piece...
At the same time, there were also views of the beginning of June and mid-July yes.gif
I mowed down a bunch of small things that require analysis and thoughtful definition. In the process of examining the parasol, I observed an attempt to "rape" a golden bronze female by a male paquita tongue.gifPhoto attached tongue.gif

The second day is relatively rainless. The bulk of the diaries are represented by the views in the attached photo. The number of caudates is striking - 3-4 pieces on almost every kupyr umbrella. But what is strange is that there are very few pigeons, even near puddles, the main mass is turnips.

This year, the theme of visiting the swamps is very popular. I'll add a little more. On June 18, I visited the swamp for the second time, about which I posted my previous report of June 12. Actually, the marsh lepidofauna is the same (i.e. nothing but Boloria eunomia), although fresh Scopula virgulata was added, and a large number of Odezia atrata and Heteropterus morpheus flew out on the lawns next to the swamp. Cranberries are blooming profusely, rosemary is also still in bloom. Gulls thrive on a nearby lake.

Can you tell me, pliz, where exactly these swamps are, with such an abundance of butterflies? Maybe some of the things you listed are still flying there. Thank you.

In the Trans-Volga region, in the Cheboksary region, Apollo has a large spread in departures (God knows why), in the Severny region there was a delay of up to a month in comparison with the sandy forests near Water Lilies. Near the Water Lily in normal years, it seems to have taken off from the very beginning of July and flew for at least three weeks. In the Ivanovo region, closer to Sezukh (but not quite there), I can say from someone else's words that at least until mid-July it has not been seen this year (usually by the beginning of July it has already flown).

A brief report on a trip to the south of Russia for catokals. Me, Mikhail and Grisha Grigoriev, truncated Kazakhstan version smile.gifWere from Saturday 30 July to Saturday 5 August, 7 nights. Volgograd and Rostov regions. Weather during the day is more than 30, at night about 20. According to our communication with the local population, the summer started there a week before our arrival, and so it rains and is cool. Perhaps because of this, almost all the catocals flew out at the same time, 12 of the 13 species were caught, and the only one that was not caught - the cat - was not much needed. The main goal was - converse, lupine, hymen, deduct. Converse caught only 2, Lupin-25, Gimeneev-20, deduct took more than 100, and it was possible to do much more. The rest - flew fulminates-3, started fraxinii-5, nupty-10, puperery-more than 100, elects-20, broken promises-10, sponsors just went-4, neonyms-30. Somehow, they came to the light only once, but there was no error at all. Everything was caught on baits, at the approach to which clouds of catocals rose, smile.gifFruit baits were not effective, becausek. they were almost immediately eaten by dormice, of which there were simply countless, both types. There were very few beetles, and the screens were used to collect them on the way to the baits, but there was nothing particularly interesting there, and what was made of bombicoids was all at Grigory's. The photos show part of the catch. In general, as it turned out in the south of the Russian Federation, more than half of the moths are katokals!
I think my partners will add beautiful photos to the report.

They're lying. Or rather, not so: the fact that in the local understanding of "cool and rainy" (translated from southern Russian to the average Russian: about +25 or slightly lower and there is no drought), for katokal it is quite summer. Another thing is that the spring was very cold and prolonged, the development of caterpillars was delayed.

I understood that 25 with rain in these places is considered bad weather. But Kazakhstan interkalaris liked it. In cold Moscow, she did not want to leave the chrysalis, but as soon as they brought her to the heat, she got out smile.gif

In fact, the area where the peasant beekeeper talked about the cool summer is located 470 km east and 110 km north of Donetsk. And not in the steppe, but, in fact, already in the Volga Valley. So, the difference can be significant: -)

Well done!
And I have a question: there in the tattoo as if intercalary got mixed up. Is this the same "bunny" that we found as a caterpillar in Kazakhstan?

09.08.2017 22:37, ИНО

To the east, it was even warmer this summer, and the gradient is quite sharp, on other days-up to 10 degrees between Donetsk and Rostov. 110 km north is practically nothing. Here is the valley of a large river-I agree, an important factor, it could be significantly cooler at night than away from it, but this is most likely more than compensated for by the longitude difference. So there was no cold weather and prolonged bad weather, even closely comparable to those that took place in central Russia. And with the cataclysms, everything is fine. For sponsors and promises, the terms are quite comparable to ours: the first one just flew out the other day, the second one arrives in an obscene state (and it appeared in early July). And this is quite a normal phenological picture here. Here fulminia is a little late this year, as spring really was with a significant shortage of temperatures.

So it is those oak forests that even under Alexander Nevsky oak logs were supplied to Novgorod-d.Borki and the right bank of the river Veronda. I don't know how they feel after yesterday's downpour, but I think I'll check again tomorrow.

I visited the oak grove - marshmallows still fly. Well, how they fly-they sit on the inflorescences of snyti, and choose the highest ones - you need to jump with a net. And then there are also clouds of small fry slepneva - they do not give life. On the flowers - bronzes, barbels and piles of some blacksmiths. Below is the marshmallow biotope and its competing neighbors.
