Two lakes - the bottom of an extinct volcano, and around a whole botanical garden. Here the ancient plants are preserved in the best possible form, and here the European Bramey still flies. We couldn't find a live butterfly, obviously a little late in time. And there was no such task. It was necessary to visit such an iconic place, where on an April evening in 1963, walking along the same paths as we did, entomologist F.Harting and student D. Crivaro discovered these butterflies for the first time.

In the photo, 1.5 liters. A bottle of mineral water bought not in a supermarket – 2 euros, and two dry sandwiches for "Russian scourges" for 8 euros. So you can starve to death... But you can also wash pans with wine from the supermarket, it will be cheaper than this water…

Italy is not Oceania. To go to the sea and fry a barbecue, you will have to drive more than one hundred km. The entire coastal strip is private property. Horror and nightmare of the modern world. There is no freedom. In the photo, Anton climbs from the beach on a tightrope.

Central Italy is a very quiet and beautiful place. Here you can still shine freely at night and not meet a single soul, and sometimes be surprised by free schools of wild boars.

On quiet and warm evenings, it is especially pleasant to take a walk away from the bustling Italian towns. In spring, there are so many sweet smells and unexpected finds. You just need to walk through the forest and sing a native melody from 83 years: ... sono un italiano
Italiano Vero.
This concludes my report on a small part of Italy. Happy Victory Day to all of you.

Montenegro, May 2015

During the trip, during which the location changed almost daily, we managed to visit a significant number of cities on the Adriatic coast of the country, as well as Lake Skadar and several places higher up in the mountains. The general impression is that there is practically nothing for an entomologist to do directly on the coast — because of the recreational attractiveness of these places, everything that could be built up has either already been built up or is actively trying to do it. Wild vegetation is preserved there in places that are not something to build on — they are even hard to climb without climbing equipment. In the inhabited territories, many plants bloom in May, but for the most part they are "empty" - there are practically no bronzes, barbels, butterflies on the flowers.

picture: P1070673.JPG

But at the same time, it is necessary to climb at least a few hundred meters higher into the mountains from the coast, as everything becomes not so dull. One of our stops was in the town of Kulyache, in the mountains above Sveti Stefan. Here, in a quiet, pastoral area, herds of beetles grazed on umbrella trees, Valgus hemipteris was especially numerous (for some reason exclusively males), a variety of barbels (the most pleasant find was Brachypteroma ottomanica), Cetonia aurata (I collected there a bluish form of this beetle, which, as I understand it, is characteristic just for the Mediterranean). There were also various daytime butterflies flying there, but I was without a net and didn't pay much attention to them.

And so, in general, those who want to join the beauty of nature and at the same time catch something else in Montenegro should of course go straight to the national parkssmile.gif. The first of them, Lake Skadar, is located very close to the capital of Montenegro, Podgorica. The lake is shallow and sometimes very swampy. The banks are rocky, and I must say that it took some effort to find a place where we could conveniently go down to the water and set up a tent.

The lake is of interest to ornithologists — a rich fauna of near-water birds, including cormorants, several species of herons and even pelicans-for botanists (many different flowering plants on the rocks, along the shore of the lake lay the fruits of the" water nut " - chilima. There was nothing outstanding about insects, the usual spring fauna for the Yugas — 2 species of Oxythyrea, Tropinota hirta, emerald-green Anthaxia, elegant weevils Polydrusus, in the pebbles near the lake — common species of near-water ground beetles. At night, the lights of fireflies flashed in the coastal forest, and Melolontha melolontha flew to the light of my head lamp.

The second national park — Durmitor-is located far from the coast and is already a mid - and high-altitude area. When we arrived there, it was still the very beginning of spring phenologically, in many places the snow had not yet come down, crocuses were blooming, and nymphalids that had overwintered were flying.

We stopped with a tent on the shore of the Black Lake with a gorgeous view of the waterfall opposite smile.gif

The town located near Durmitor (through which the main flow of tourists goes to the park) is called Zabljak. There is a suspicion that this name has something to do with those hordes of gray toads that fill the Black Lake in May. smile.gif

Here, by the way, are the shots from Zhablyak itself:

Since the snow is barely falling and the sun is still not very warm, there were not many beetles in Durmitor, but the fauna was quite different from that of the coast.

In general, the first half of May in Montenegro is quite a pleasant time to relax — there are relatively few tourists, good weather, everything blooms and turns green. But the Adriatic Sea at the very beginning of May was still a little cold, and only after the 10th day it warmed up to a comfortable b.m. temperature.

kotbegemot, how is the weather there right now? Today I watched the forecast for the world on some Russian TV channel, it was +9 against London, even in Siberia there is no such thing anywhere else. Is it really that bad?

Yandex weather is usually similar to the truth:

Now 11 degrees seems, at night to 8, tomorrow afternoon to 16.

Kholodryn again wrapped up after a warm week.

Here in MO now W-all models considered that there will be a wind at night, and predicted 6-8 degrees at night, but in fact most likely there will be frost again.

Ezox-megaixpert, stop messing up, in Sibir minus ten is now walking,
"there is not so much anywhere", damn, so, anyhow, blurt out something weep.gif

For especially alternately gifted panov:" nowhere so much is not present "stands for" none of the other cities listed in that forecast (on TV) was not given such a low temperature." It was, in fact, for the largest cities of the Russian Federation and some European capitals, in the far north, where it is now -10, neither of which is present.

But still, the SFS map is very interesting, how long does winter keep Western Europe this year? Especially surprising is the number " 0 " in the north of France. Once again, returning to the mystical political and climatic relations according to the tradition laid down by Pan Stepov, I thought that this was retribution for the epic with the "Mistrals". I Googled the word "hide" and was very surprised by its original meaning.
