If we are talking about the objects in the last photo, then these are not mushrooms, but gastropod eggs.

Oh, - thank you so much! - and there, just under the bark, "forest" snails with dark blue skin were hiding in the mass, having got there before wintering!
And what kind of "worm" is this (2cm)? "not a fly larva?"
Well, to top it off, along the way - a male blackbird, swarming in the fallen leaves, and dogwood berries, planted as an ornamental plant.
Now there is frost, fog, frost and wind outside the window; but the soul is torn to the fields))

Hello everyone. I copy here my message that I wrote on the ornithological forum in the branch "Not about birds"... The people there puzzled me: - "they say that it can be ants, or termites" ... - but I, for the life of me, can't believe/understand this.

Yes, the ornithologists are right: either an anthill, or a termite hill, with a demolished dome. It would be nice to dig a little and see if anyone gets out. Although, it is possible that after the devastation, the inhabitants left this nest.

06.12.2016 18:21, Андреас

I have already been given other versions here ... (we don't seem to have termites, as far as I know) - they say that this is during sharp temperature changes, when frost falls - so water can act through the sand from the dead wood saturated with it...

If it was not on a log, but just on the sand in the floodplain at the water's edge, then it is most likely bites of birds (waders, hoopoes, pike, cranes,... looking for bears or worms in the soil there. Are you sure it's on the fallen trunk? Did you use anything back then? Sorry for the indiscreet question smile.gifIs it possible to have a general view of the biotope?

06.12.2016 19:38, ИНО

Andreas, are you back to your old ways? That "chemistry" climbed up the trees, now, here, the water builds nests. Of course, water can perform, but only such tricky earthen mazes will not appear. Well, our reality is arranged differently, what can you do?..

andr_mih, and you can compare a photo of such "bites". Because here I see a typical ant or termite garden with an open dome (some kind of animal, most likely). If this is earth (or, I apologize, coprolites) on the surface of the trunk, then other options are excluded. If the land is on the ground, then there are more versions, of course.

I don't know about termites in the Stavrapol region, Google gave out the name of the settlement by castingeek.gif, but there is definitely one species in the south of Ukraine, and you seem to be warmer and closer to Asia. But if there are no termites, then there are still ants, most likely of the genus Lasius. They often train the ground on pieces of wood.

06.12.2016 21:28, Андреас

Here's more ornithologists explain to me...

06.12.2016 21:36, ИНО

Next time, take a picture of the general view, otherwise it's not quite clear who is standing on whom. If the top of this formation is at ground level, and the passages go deep, then many people could do it, but definitely living creatures, not water.

Andreas,
yes, the pauropod centipede, well taken.
the larva is not a fly, but a mosquito-there is a head capsule, and since the processes are not visible on the ass-perhaps a large mycetophiloid-there are such fat ones in the south that I caught wasps like paravespula-awesome mimicry.

I saw your photos on the definition - it's a pity they didn't subdivide the name here - it will get bogged down there..

As for the sand, I'm sure it's water erosion or freezing.
not this, but with the help of heavy rains something similar, where there are columns under the seals:

Please pay more attention in our delicate case:
A mycetophiloid (- idea) is not a mycetophilid (- dae) - I meant a superfamily with a group of families.
Well, I strained a little, found what I meant: Keroplatidae with large representatives http://www.diptera.info/photogallery.php?album_id=79
In terms of size, I meant this (and the amazing mimicry of a live one is behavior, I smeared it already in a net, believing that it was a solid wasp) - Keroplatus tipuloides:

I remember from geology lessons that if there is a pebble on such a column, then it is called an Aeolian column. It turns out when it rains which knocks out the sand around the stone

My friend Vovka and his friend (without me) the day before yesterday, not far from the duel of M. Y. Lermontov, came across the oozing trunk of a beech tree. There was no particular smell. The juice frothed. Several species of flies were feasting. He also shot two beetles there.
I can imagine what will happen there in the heat!.. I will perform the Hajj there-to this narrow-massed Mecca at every opportunity. smile.gif
I'll show the beetle in the definition topic.

The news at work that I was going to attend the big congress in Sochi from April 19 to 21 didn't make me particularly enthusiastic at first. But after thinking a little, I came up with a crazy idea, and not to try to find Allancastria Kavkazika there, like in the vicinity of Sochey it should already fly. I arrived on Tuesday, April 19, in the evening. Sochi is just not recognized, built up.... 13 years was not here. Another city. The weather was bad. It had been overcast all Wednesday, and it would have been hard to get out of work. But on Thursday morning the sun was shining. I was busy until 11, and at 3 p.m. I had an important report. M-yes.... At 11: 30, while everyone went to lunch, I fly into the room, change my dress suit for a T-shirt and sweatpants, Yandex taxi, and in 20 minutes I'm already running to the Agur waterfalls. In the forest, everything is green and quiet, there are few butterflies. I went up for about 30 minutes, but there are no alancastries. Whether it's too early or the places aren't right... What is there early, flies killed in the trash male. I see a gap ahead - a power line. Access to open spaces from the forest. Fly in full, just full. After 2 hours, I'm already making a report. Well, life is a pancake!)) In general, who will gather information to help you.

I bring to your attention my report on the hike to the Aibga ridge last weekend.
The goal of the hike was to set traps on high-altitude karabus, not so much for themselves, but in order to pay off their "entomological debts"))
Summer is late and cold this year, and in the mountains it's still early spring, spring primroses are blooming. The snow had not yet melted in many places, and I even had to climb the ridges, and when I tried to walk along the road, I sank into it up to my knees.
There were also few insects, I met some of the butterflies in the mountains:
Aglais urticae
Vanessa atalanta
Polygonia c-album
Celastrina argiolus, and perhaps all of the daytime butterflies.
Several times some white butterflies flew very rapidly from the bottom up, quite large, about the size of mnemosyne, but I still did not understand what it was, because I had never seen mnemosyne fly so fast.
What was really plentiful was the Pseudopanthera macularia moth, which literally flew up from under our feet. I caught a few of them and spread them out.
When I dug traps, I found staphylinae and pterostichae in the grass.
Photos of insects this time do not stand up, because there was really no one to photograph, and there was not much time. Of course, later I will post a photo after "harvesting"))
