To Morozzz - I took a picture of this falera, but it is already a little dry and it is difficult to open it without damaging it. If anything, I'll put up a straightened one in tufts. We'll deal with her there.

Today I caught Batocera celebiana. Here I am bragging. Also, among other things, I caught racehorses. So there are beetles in Thailand! They just hide from entomologists.

Khao Sok. Surat Thani province. 01-03. 07. 13 Surroundings of the National Park. I still had to return here after a week, leaving my friends in Ao Nang, and I will say that the situation has changed dramatically. It flew well into the light, even wonderful at times. The moon was already hidden, and it was raining heavily most of the time. Things did not dry at all, I went all the time in wet. But the second trip was worth it. Scoops, hawkmoth, volnyanki, crested birds, etc. flew in the assortment. In general, everything that I love. A couple of Antheraea assamensis arrived. Some cossids and cocoonworms. There were a lot of moths, but I hardly took them. There weren't many beetles, but there were some ground beetles. I will deal with the species composition already on the Mainland. I bombed more mattresses in those three days than I had in the previous two weeks. The best rain was seen between 3 and 4 am when the next rain started to fall, which ended the next day at four o'clock in the afternoon. I really didn't know what to grab! The light trap was placed at the second floor level, where they had a canteen. So there was also a nice bonus in the form of a refrigerator with a steamed beer 2 meters from the screen! The lamp was a DRV 160-ka, Two of my 250-ki crashed during the flight from Kiev to Krabi. I almost had a heart attack when I saw it! I've never had such a mess before. I agreed with the owners without any problems that I would catch insects from them all night. The few neighbors were also normal, like a fishing, as one Canadian said, looking at me. So this trip met my expectations. Khao Sok is definitely a good place and it is convenient to get there - a minibus of 400 baht and three hours of time. Bungalow for one with amenities - 300 baht / day + ball Internet. I would hang out there longer, but I also need to walk my family.

Overall, based on the results of the trip, I can say that I fulfilled the plan. I fished during the day and in the light, and even caught something, considering that I had to combine my hobby with a family vacation. I would like to catch the light a little longer, at least for a week, but this is not the worst option. I looked at new places and got new impressions. Caught as many as nine species of local barbel. There were as many as two of them on my last trip to Tai. So the progress is clear!

I haven't written here in a long time. Insects fotkal little recently. More climbing volcanoes in Sumatra: Kerinci, Merapi, Singgalang. Now in Borneo. Before that, I lived in Kuching for 10 days, now I'm flying to Kota Kinabalu. In Borneo, in the Bako National Park, large animals were more common: langurs, snout monkeys...

I have repeatedly heard about the fires in Sumatra from people from Russia. I didn't see it myself, and the Russians I met in Sumatra were also very surprised by the news...

+ to both two questions.
And bats with flying squirrels do not need to be stuffed with carcasses?

Basically, only skulls and skeletons were taken from the youngsters (on assignment for the university's collection), plus they made stuffed animals out of a couple of interesting flyers (these are already battle trophies for their loved shuffle.gifones), with which they came in the form of skins and already stuffed in the photo (or rather, still in the process of manufacturing). The flying squirrel was not stuffed at all, a photo of a fresh animal and only the skull was taken from it, well, the skin on the die, so to speak, according to the standard cool.gif
By and large, the main goal of the expedition was to collect bats, and all of them (including the "trophy" ones) are labeled, so the material on them also has its own scientific value, although I don't know what exactly they plan to do with the skeletons at the university itself...
The route in Thailand is something like this: Lalu, the vicinity of Mae Sota, Non Bun Nak, mushroom farm near Lampang and reservoir near Soeng Sang
, I apologize in advance if I wrote the names obliquely shuffle.gif

Some sad omission here - not a word about Tibet! What is surprising is that it seems to be an interesting place for everyone... Well, that's fine - so as not to shock people, I will tell you not about the trip and fishing itself, but about the "deviation from the course" that once happened In the direction of the southeast of Chinhai, where Tibet becomes softer and more wooded, and not the stereotypical stone desert that it seems to most, and which prevails in Lhasa and surrounding it local areas.

It was the end of June 2007. Moving to Sinin, the capital of the prov. Chinhai is nothing special these days. As well as moving further by regular bus. But we do not take the easy way out - instead of a convenient and cheap plane, I preferred to travel by train for more than a day. In principle, Chinese trains are noticeably superior in comfort to ours... but as a biologist, the view from their window was depressing: fields were replaced by cities, vegetable gardens, warehouses and factories. No woods or lawns! Not even a patch of wild vegetation from Shanghai to Lanzhou! Only between Lanzhou and Xining did the clay desert begin, which is not suitable for economic activity. And therefore not much touched by man.

When I arrived at my destination in central Chinhai, I found it completely covered in snow! It was only a couple of weeks before summer started. So, I decided to move on - to the very south-east of the province, deciding to hang out in the vicinity of the village of Baima (aka Bama and Banma). What was fascinating was that the district was declared closed to intourists by the authorities, so I had to go to the district KGB, where I was already known. Just like they knew I was boring. So, having lightened my purse for the 50 yuan fee, I was given a pass and an honorary escort to the bus station with a c/u tomorrow's driver will never leave without this Laowai face. smile.gif

I was familiar with Baima and its surroundings from the Japanese travel guide "Exploring the Tibetan World". Once again, I was amazed at how people can blatantly lie - even though they are Japanese! It feels like the authors only saw Tibet on Google maps. And not all of it. The hotels and other elements listed in the village simply never existed in nature, and the obvious and notable ones were not indicated!

The weather was... some kind of mockery! I couldn't have imagined such an abomination in her performance: from 8 in the morning, the sky was overcast, and from 9 to 6 in the evening it rained. But from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., the sky was 100% clear! And so 9 days out of 11! Therefore, I indulged in getting acquainted with the very wild and friendly local population, who often shied away from the white man in fear and rode a cheerful Tibetan taxi to the surrounding passes, taking a deep breath of almost five kilometers of air and trying in vain to dig out at least something six-legged in the rubble. In truth, the passes did not look very appetizing - in the form of sharp ridges and steep slopes crumbling into the abyss.

I managed to fish for two incomplete days on the outskirts of one of the nature reserves on the outskirts of Baima. Not much was flying: Aporia, a couple of the most banal Colias (montium and feildii), Glaucopsyche, zorki... The style of fishing is traditional for these places - "lawn tennis", when you need to see a butterfly rushing at you for 30 meters and with one attempt to hit it. Otherwise, it relaxes and is picked up by the continuously blowing wind. And if I would have easily caught up with this in Primorye, then at 4 thousand meters the speed is a little different: after another marathon at 20 meters, I wanted to lie in the shade of bushes for 5 minutes smile.gif

By the way, the wind in these mountains is especially cruel because when it blows, icicles begin to grow on the nose, and only a good jacket saves. When this natural phenomenon stops blowing, it becomes unbearably hot even in a T-shirt or with a bare belly! And so, all day you have to do peredevashki, constantly staying in a boiling, then in an icy sweat weep.gif

By the way, if anyone thinks that Tibet is a vast expanse of wild nature, then I will disappoint you. This is true only above 4,500 meters, where Yaks do not feel very comfortable, and the landscapes are like a cross between the Pamirs and Chukotka. Everywhere below, Tibet and its environs are plucked to the roots of pasture. With piles of manure and burrows of pika birds. Where nothing insect flies. Generally. Only occasionally you can stumble upon the protected areas surrounded by a wall of thorns, which are a meter-long carpet of flowers. And on the other side of the fence is a shitty golf course with burrows. And yes, this is China - even if you climb into the rocks at a height, you can't always find a place where people don't look at you. But one thing saves you: Tibetans fiercely hate the Chinese, so they will never run to report a foreigner waving a net to the authorities. Rather, on the contrary, they will help if it becomes obvious that a foreigner is doing something that the Chinese authorities do not like. And there is something to hate - Tibetans are not accepted into government and government bodies, there are no jobs for them - most are below the poverty level. And everyone has a large cleaver and a portrait of the Dalai Lama-despite the fact that possession of it is a criminal offense. But the Dalai Lama looks at you in all the shops and eateries from the most prominent place. And the Chinese don't go into those shops, food halls, or even the streets. Even the police.

I forgot to mention that this trip was experimental in terms of the fact that I came there with a great one. I decided to try if it was possible to move around the neighborhood on it. It turned out to be bad. This thing takes away mobility more than it provides it. Of course, it is convenient to roll it around the vicinity of villages where nothing flies. And in the mountains, the use of this transport is quite minimal. It is much more useful to use a taxi or get a motorcycle out of the locals.

It was my flat tire. After 20 seconds, a consultation was held. A minute later, they were all drinking moonshine, which tasted and smelled like fermented yak urine. smile.gif And this only speaks to the total poverty of the locals - after all, the 25 yuan (then 75 rubles, now 130) that I paid a day for a place in the station hotel, you could buy 15 bottles of beer or 10-15 liters of vodka - not refined, but quite edible! By the way, the cheapest beer I met in the famous Siah-a bottle cost 1 yuan, but if you drink the bottle and return it to the store, then 0.5! That is, now it is 2.55 rubles. without or 5.1 rubles with a bottle, and then even cheaper!

There are such people huy. Or huytsy, as I began to call them over time. Very nice Muslims, like a cross between Chinese and Persians. There are quite a lot of them in central China. Almost all local public catering establishments are Hui. The range ranges from impromptu Chinese cuisine to typical langman and kebab. There is also a large Muslim Tu people there, but I have never learned to distinguish between them. Unlike the Tibetans, these guys are almost equal in rights to the Chinese. Among them are big businessmen, politicians and military leaders.

There are such people huy.
It's amazing how the existence of such a wonderful people is allowed by the local forum censorship security service? After all, as you know, even the good and necessary word "razgr***" is subject to censorship here. And here on you... tongue.gif

A, the Cartesian coordinate system... A useful item. smile.gif

I called a friend of mine in Beijing, Wen Hui (which is exactly how I took her name by ear) - she was fine, she responded. smile.gif

this is another word for smile.gif Written in Russian, it is converted to ***. But I did not want to confuse the people with the existence of a people with such a secret name. In general, they are written as "hui"for this reason. This is even closer to the truth, since there is a diphthong "Hey" at the end. But in it, "e" is almost not perceived by ear, so if you cut it in Russian, you will get a different word-even two - hui will turn hu wei. In the Chinese sense, they are from the "returned clan" hu huizu (hence, by the way, I came up with "huizu"smile.gif) will turn into a pronounced with a terrible accent "escort clan" 护卫族 or "tiger clan" 虎威族

Often their pronunciation is very confusing and confusing. Therefore, when communicating, they tend to use Russian or European names.
So, Wen could be one of many wan, wang, wen, weng, and Hwei - most likely Hui-probably meaning "skilled" or "intelligent" - such names they like to give. And she could hear it as "let's go back" or "come back soon", "emperor of brightness" - in short, she cried, but endured. smile.gif

In short, we can call Natasha Nattshe, Natase, Nadasha and it will still be clear. In Sino-Burmese languages, where each syllable is a root with several meanings that differ in tones, a Caucasian can accurately copy the name only if he has a perfect musical ear or good language practice. But in China, the latter almost does not work - even after getting used to Xining phonetics, I was not able to understand or say anything in Lanzhou... and back in Harbin, I am always struck by the guttural" Little Russian " accent with the grinding of a circular saw on the vowels-it seems that it would be easier for them to speak Russian than Chinese smile.gif

there are no yaks only in nature reserves surrounded by a thick thorn fence. The thorn is also impassable for humans. In addition to the thorn, nature reserves are recognized by large, beautiful posters, and sometimes by the uncles who look after the order, living in tents right next to the fence.

And this is my personal taxi driver brother. Transport is also notable - even though the car is the size of a good refrigerator, it manages to fill 12 people of the local population. At an altitude of 3500-4500 on a bucket of gasoline passes more than 300 km!!! For such properties, this model of the Chinese automobile industry is second only to a motorcycle in popularity.

However, where are the photos of insects? confused.gif Without them, the Report becomes like a simple botanical and tourist tour rolleyes.gif wink.gif.

And you try to shoot insects in these conditions! They're either blown off into nowhere at your approach, or they're just whizzing by. And the catch is sometimes 5-10 butterflies a day. Such idylls, when a butterfly eats a flower, and you can come up to half a meter, I do not remember in Tibet. An exception is snow-covered parnassiuses. For this reason, and even after I destroyed two DSLRs and a lens in the mountains, I refused to combine butterfly hunting with photographing. And at an altitude of more than 4000m, the camera gives the insect catcher as much comfort and mobility as a yoke with a couple of buckets of water at sea level. smile.gif

Maybe this year I will go to shoot more and chase caterpillars and crawling parnassus - then maybe I will shoot something.

It is quite possible to shoot insects lower down - in deserts and in lower mountains. For example, here's a little bit: in 2009, we decided to return home for fun, making a detour through the province called the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region to look at the Helan Shan Mountains. It was almost August, and there was little hope of finding anything in the parched steppe and desert. However, the steppe was full of erate-type yellows and loud buzzing of flying locusts. The wings of locusts are quite bright and noticeable in flight-blue, red, brown, etc. Only one thing prevents you from staying in these parts-the infernal dryness and inferno.

The steppe at the foot of the ridge is studded with traces of the 2000-year history of human habitation: along the eastern foot of Helangshan, the capital of the powerful Xi Xia Empire (Western Xia) is located. Wherever you go, there are circles made of stones, walls, fences, and piles around you who knows when and by whom. And a lot of things ponatykano. The path is constantly blocked by stone ramparts overgrown with dense thorny bushes... although from a distance the area looks like a flat football field. The height is about 1100m.

The spurs of Helangshan were completely incinerated over the summer. The surviving patches of greenery were not in bloom, and no insect life was seen on the slopes. The ground beneath his feet was like compressed dust.

Although, they look very interesting! I should be here in June!

something else was flying along the dried-up riverbed , even unexpected mottled flowers that occupied the semblance of an elm tree

and those same locusts

and not only

... and along the riverbed grows something quite intriguing smile.gif

therefore, almost all the time I had to spend in a fruitless search for rodents or eggs. Empty! frown.gif

During Xi Xia's time, local emperors built huge mud pagodas at the foot of the mountains. Over the centuries, they swam down, shortened, and became riddled with swallow holes. From insects-a lot of the same locusts and a little yellowish.

At that point, the 4-hour stop ended and our journey continued to torona at home through completely lifeless deserts.
