And again a multi-hour flight and in some places virgin forests of Southeast Asia. I miss you so much. It so happened that I opened the 2013 season in mainland Malaysia, where I also closed it. I want to tell you about my last trip to Malaysia.
Sunny Malaysia. It is both fascinating and disappointing. A huge variety of insects, but complete unpredictability of nature. It would seem that this is not my first trip. Everything is calculated and planned to the smallest detail. I know where I'm going and why I'm going. An amazing place, so beloved by many entomologists. But, alas, to experience the tropics and the summer of insects, you need to live and catch there for more than one year. So, about everything in order.
I won't tell you about the flight. Everything went great. In Kuala Lumpur, we are met by a local friend, and now we are heading north into the mountains, to the famous place of Fraser Hills. My friend is in the tropics for the first time. A storm of emotions. I don't like the view on the road, I know that the most interesting and real forest is ahead. In the meantime, there are palm trees outside the window, the ubiquitous oil palms.
The closer you get to Frizera, the more fabulous nature becomes. There are already monkeys on the roads, and myriads of birds, and giant trees and unusual beauty of flowers and ferns. And even the fact that there is a tropical downpour outside the window does not spoil the impression at all. I can't believe it, from the dullness of the Moscow autumn and bustle to the variety of colors and a kind of silence.

Already at dusk we arrive at the place. We were already expected there, but in fact it turns out that they will only allow us to stay there for three nights. It's a nice place, on top of a cliff, surrounded by woods and no streetlamps at night. And most importantly, we are alone here. No one can stop us. We are looking forward to it. And off we went. We didn't have time to put things out, the first find. We put the screen, even prioninus. We are euphoric. My friend is happy. We dream of new finds.Opa, bramea hershey, atlases, and so on. Yeah, you were dreaming… The screen in the distance is empty, even small things are not enough. During the night, Saturnius, several species of rhinos, a couple of hawkmoths and all sorts of small things will arrive from the heels. By morning, I'll be glad to find another prioninus and some kind of macroglossum. The first night has passed, but so far we are not upset. Still ahead!
The following nights are also sluggish. Of course, something was collected, but I did not expect such a lull. The impression of one of the nights was brightened only by the presence of guests from Iran and the delicious shish kebab they prepared. During the day, there were practically no insects, and we mostly slept off.

On the fourth day, we had to move to another place nearby. I've fished there before, and I liked it there. And again the same story. We checked in and went to explore the area during the day. Oh, and how many beetles we picked up. It's very expensive to see. We were looking forward to dusk. That's where it should break through. But night Malaysia again showed us a fig. There are single arrivals for six nights. Of the positive emotions, this is only swimming under a waterfall. That's the power! I've never experienced anything like this before. Such power! It's hard to convey the feeling. Unforgettable. There is also a huge number of daytime butterflies on the way to the waterfall.

It was very pleasant and unexpected to meet entomologists one night. Yes, and even Russian! Hello to the guys from Vladivostok! We met and had a good time. Unfortunately, the guys were burned and banned from fishing. And the next day, the administration visited us and asked us to leave the territory. Well, we have 6 more days and new places and adventures are waiting for us. Let's go to Cameron!

We find a bungalow on the top of a hill. We put the screen on a cliff. Two steps away from the screen and 30 meters of free fall. Flight path. And the forest all around. Just perfect.

Malaysia is not cheap. Tickets to Kuala Lumpur from Moscow and back a month before departure cost 32 thousand rubles. A taxi from the airport to Fraser costs about 3 thousand, to Cameron about 5.5 thousand. Accommodation cost from 600 rubles per day to 1000 rubles per person. The food is spicy, but it tastes really good to me. For 100 rubles, you can have a good meal.

Malaysia is calm, welcoming and safe. It can be recommended for beginners or those who want to catch comfortably. With the owners, it is not difficult to agree on how to shine directly on the lawn with the house, on the veranda or on the balcony. There were no problems with the export.

In late November and early December, we made a trip to the Philippines to catch insects and travel a little. We wanted to rent a car, but the Philippines was the only place in the world where I was required to have an international license. They were not there and had to go by bus. As the first point, we chose a place in the Cordillera Central-a mountain system located on the largest island of the Philippines – Luzon.
During the day, we walked through the mountains on numerous trekking paths. The forests are pine, even somewhat similar to ours-raspberries, blueberries and mushrooms grow, similar to boletus. There are very few diurnal butterflies. They caught euremes, mycalesis, and melanitis. It is strange that in the forest, despite the logs cut down, there are no beetles at all. For all the days –only a few dung beetles.
In the hotel, we found a secluded balcony with a view of the forest. Screwed into the cartridge DRL 160 W and began to catch with it. In the future, they adapted it for night fishing – it was especially convenient to catch it in the rain. During the day, wandering around the neighborhood, we also visited local attractions – old churches (Filipino Catholics), interesting burials in coffins suspended from steep rocks, caves, waterfalls, etc.
After a week of fishing in the mountains, we moved to the ocean, to the small resort town of San Juan, favored by surfers, where we spent the rest of the trip. In the morning, we went to catch daytime butterflies on a small mountain range overgrown with tropical vegetation near the coast, and in the afternoon, of course, relax on the beach. By the way, our training camps were attacked by ants despite the precautions taken, but thanks to the timely detection, everything was saved.

Hi Hi, I already got this sheet, I just used to take cars in Europe and America and no one asked for this crap.
On Luzon, there was no typhoon, or, accordingly, no consequences at all, it was on Leyte.
The beaches are nice, but the waves are big, better suited for surfing than for swimming. The people are calm, not pesky, entomologists are well treated

Of the " my " ones, only the imago should be left (this is some kind of Odontomantis sp., male, it's worth looking at the genitals), the larva on the right, I'm 99% sure, belongs to the same species, the larva on the left you photographed at the right angle, this is the nymph of the female Hestiasula brunneriana (Saussure, 1871), so also you can release it.
