Amphimallon solstitialis and Serica brunnea

I once caught Amphimallon solstitialis as a child, but I let it go out of my stupidity, thinking that it was a small May beetle! Since then, I have never seen this species in my life.
With Serica brunnea, the situation is almost the same: a few years ago, I found a dilapidated beetle (without legs and belly) in early May, and since then this is the only specimen in my collection.
Who knows, please help me catch these animals!!!

I'm not an expert on beetles, but the first one (Amphimallon solstitialis) is a mass species in the Moscow region and has already flown away (or almost). The second (Serica brunnea) regularly arrives at the light, as, indeed, the first. The last time was last weekend. I don't see any particular problems.

About 13 years ago, I observed these comrades (Amphimallon solstitialis) in the Prater Park in Vienna in simply unreal numbers. And just in June smile.gif

Maybe there aren't enough of them in the Leningrad region?
Although near Gatchina M. hippocastani flew a lot in May.
I went to the same place in June-July - I didn't see anything!

Serica brunnea in Flax.the plane flies briskly to the light - no more than three days ago (on Saturday) arrived. If necessary, I can collect it...

In the morning at the beginning of July, I saw something red similar to Serica brunnea in Berngardovka near Vsevolozhsk.
But catch failed weep.gif

Amphimallon solstitialis in Yaroslavl flies right in the city, larvae develop in lawns... It usually flies at dusk. but a couple of days ago, I knocked down a flying beetle right during the working day, and the second one was "caught" by a sparrow! so these "animals" are still flying...
Serica brunnea usually flies in the first half of July, but this year may be delayed. In the Leningrad region, both types should be available, I have seriki from Finland (Helsinki).

Just in the afternoon I caught an Amphimallon!

The last Amphimallon solstitialis caught on 13.07.2007 at the Grazhdansky Prospekt metro station. At 23.30 I was sitting in an open cafe and admiring a beetle that flies over a young birch tree. I couldn't stand it, I got up and caught it.
More than once I met these beetles at the railway platforms Murino and Devyatkino. North of St. Petersburg, the species is not widespread, but it occurs regularly.
Maybe the fact is that my house is extreme in the city, but if I remove the mosquito from the window in the evening, Serica brunnea immediately flies to the light. Last year we flew quite massively.

In the Tver region, where I caught krushch and seritsa, I removed the nets from the windows at night and tried to catch them. Nothing flew but mosquitoes and all sorts of earwigs-moths, although it was mid-July, and the night was warm! wall.gif

There are some mystical phenomena with insects. And the beetle is ordinary and everyone catches it, but it doesn't suit you and that's it. I have such garbage with Selatosomus cruciatus. Everywhere they write that the beetle is for Flax. It's the usual one, but it doesn't suit me, that's all. Zhotia beetle is rather big, with a daytime and open lifestyle. Riddle....

30.07.2008 15:04, bugslov

Also never seen it

It's been following me pretty much all over Len this summer.regions - and near Gatchina, and near Vsevolozhsk and somewhere else (I don't remember already) I came across. This is in confirmation of the mystical smile.gif

I'll go to Kingisep for the weekend, try it out with the light.

I think someone built Amphimallon last week. So only a few, but still come across. And there are serikas: I didn't come across them this year - it was cold, but before sunset I mowed down several females on the edge of the forest.

03.08.2008 16:29, bugslov

Probably seriki already flew away. I spent half the night in the headlights - nothing, just moths!

It's already cold in the Leningrad region. We'll have to postpone catching these animals until next year. frown.gif

Amphimallon solstitialis is very common in Moscow, flying over lawns in the summer, until the end of July.

Another summer has arrived. Just the end of June. Can you open the hunting season for Serica brunnea and Amphimallon solstitialis or is it still too early?

23.06.2009 17:06, Kemist

The season is already open. I caught five of them yesterday.

Amphimallon solstitialis flew around the lawn, under the light of lanterns.

It seems to me that in Moscow they fly a little earlier than in St. Petersburg. I haven't seen frown.gifanyone yet

I have an April instance of this view

it is best to watch in the evenings on the lawns, when it is just beginning to get dark.

That's right. I caught it in the evening even in vacant lots on the territory of St. Petersburg. They often fly over young birches. But this year we have a very long and cold spring and many insects fly out much later than usual. I haven't seen it this year yet.

Yesterday I visited the entire Tavrichesky Garden from 21.30 to 22.30 (then it was closed)
At 23.00 I arrived at the Porokhovsky forest park - nothing but moths flew.
Even at the lanterns, I kept watch - all to no availfrown.gif
Today I will go to Piskarevsky forest Park (there is a copy from there) maybe I will be lucky there

In general, the lifestyle of Amphimallon solstitialis is very different from that of Melolontha hippocastani?

26.06.2009 16:19, Kemist

They lay their eggs in sod, which is optional for Melolontha hippocastani

10.07.2009 2:17, Kemist

Today on Kutuzovsky Prospekt caught both species at once
