Staphylinus caesareus? Novosibirsk, zoo, 26.05.2015, in a rotten snag.
The almost complete absence of a yellow pattern on the pronotum and, in particular, on the tergites immediately behind the elytra is disconcerting.

It looks like I got lucky again yesterday on a good beast shuffle.gif
Before posting this nutcracker in the topic "Nutcrackers", I decided to ask again here just in case.
Suspicion crept in. Isn't this Danosoma conspersa (Gyllenhal, 1808) ???
Something looks quite different from Danosoma fasciatum (Linnaeus 1758), which I collected there and posted here: http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showtop...dpost&p=1428823
Here is a link to Danosoma conspersa on the Zinovsky website: http://www.zin.ru/Animalia/Coleoptera/rus/lacconkm.htm
There it is labeled: "Vladimir region, Kirzhachsky district, 20 km south of Kirzhach, 55°58' 57 "N 38°47' 60 "E 21. IX. 2004 leg. B. Zhuravlev"
For my beetle, the label is as follows: Vladimir region, Petushinsky district, okr., der. Starye Omutischi, on an old pine log without bark 55°54 '50.34" N 39°19 '15.85" E 26. V. 2015 leg. Feoktistov V. I.
Please help me clarify the situation: is it D. conspersa or is it still D. fasciatum confused.gif
UPD: I looked at the underside and now I'm almost sure that this is not Danosoma fasciatum smile.gif
The question remains: D. conspersa or who else??
I changed the photo.

Vasily, look at the lateral edge of the pronotum-if it is whole, then it is Danosoma fasciatum, if it is interrupted in the posterior third - Danosoma conspersa. This is the most reliable way to distinguish between these species because they vary greatly in color.

Thank you, Dmitry beer.gif. This time I really have a conspersa jump.gif
Hastily compared the pronotum (thank God there is a photo): on the right side of the photo is fasciatum, collected in 2013 in the same place, and on the left it was collected yesterday. Pronotum is clearly different smile.gif

Why use a hammer? Catch it, and put it in the refrigerator. If you don't mind, you can put it in the freezer wink.gif

Yes, I'm generally zero in them, just smile.gif

On ZIN's website, there is an article by Komarov with keys by gender. It's better to use the keys to drive it away, so it's more reliable. In general, it is very similar to B. unipustulatus...

Not granulatus exactly. It might be confused with a quencelatus, but I'd say it's really Ulrichi.

Both are most likely S. typhon.
You need to turn them under binoculars using this monograph - http://www.zin.ru/animalia/coleoptera/rus/kabako00.htm
