I ask for help with the definition of bronzes under the affinis series shuffle.gif  smile.gifJune-July, Crimea, pos. Koktebel. Protaetia (Liocola) marmorata from the Moscow region.

The entire first row - Protaetia cuprina

The last 3 specimens in the second row are almost certainly Cetonia aurata pallida. For greater confidence, it is better to look at the mid-thorax process (it should be b. m. spherical).

Thanks for the help. Isn't the first of the three just an ordinary aurata? specifically pallida? the last two are redder and smaller.

Thanks for the help. Isn't the first of the three just an ordinary aurata? specifically pallida? the last two are redder and smaller.

If they all come from the same location in Crimea, they can't be different subspecies. Different subspecies live in different territories. In Crimea, as far as I remember, according to Medvedev, it should be pallida. As for the morphological difference between the nominative subspecies and the pallida, it is not in size and color (which are extremely variable in both subspecies), but in small details such as the presence/absence of certain white spots on the pronotum, on the front of the elytra, dotted lines, etc.I will not mention exactly now. You can read about this from the same Medvedev, in the corresponding part of the "Fauna of the USSR".

The shape of the mid-thorax process is worth looking at to make sure that it is not Protaetia metallica, which should also be present in the Crimea, and which sometimes has an aurata-like top. Metallica has a flat mid - thoracic process, while aurata has a spherical process.

Good day to all!

Need help identifying beetles:

1,2 - GB, Oxford, Christ Church Meadow (?patrobys sp.?)

3 - GB, Oxford, Christ Church Meadow (?Anhomenus dorsalis?)

4-Crimean comrades, quite ordinary, the neighborhood of Livadia, something like Calathus or Neocalathus. Perhaps someone has some information about the species of this and related genera in the Crimea, because there are still a couple of dozen exes of clearly different species from the same place, and if someone tells me where to dig at all, I will be very grateful!

ps: I apologize for the quality of the photo, unfortunately there is no way to do better frown.gif(

Thank you in advance!!

Well, it usually happens on spruce (however, sometimes on pine). You have a typical form. He has 3 aberrations: ab. luridum (the same only the thighs are black); ab. fulcratum (black elytra and brown legs); ab. aulicum (all black) smile.gif

7-most likely Phyllobius (Pterygorrhynchus) maculicornis Germar, 1824, if the hairs are light, semi-adjacent and cover only the elytra, then it is definitely him. Ph. arborator has black, protruding hairs covering the entire body.
