a petri dish ?? why are you doing this to her? immediately in such a cramped room, with such low ceilings....)) the released butterfly will clearly be problematic to spread and dry its wings.. in my opinion,it is better to carefully transplant the cocoon into another container, with higher sides. and put sticks so that she can crawl on them and sit in an upright position. it will be possible to release it closer to night...of course, if you are not going to pin it.)))

Only with the definition of bad (((Can you tell me who to turn to for galls, specifically galls on yastrebinka. (I'm a schoolboy)

according to the photo, it looks like a Brushtail (Orgyia antiqua), only the white acacia is not indicated in the forage plants http://lepidoptera.ru/taxonomy/6974 so I might be wrong. shuffle.gif

28.05.2015 14:52, Anders

Probably it's still a different view. All Orgyia antiqua caterpillars in the photo have light hairs and yellow tufts on the back. This one has dark hair and white tufts. Although it is still small - about 1.5 cm.

Hello,
Kharkiv, the end of May, I found cocoons in the groove of the window frame,
all the masonry is 15 cm long, about 11 cocoons,

at the" entrance " to the groove, splinters up to 5 mm long and solid pieces of earth (pictured С1.јрд earth and wood chips on the right)

I tried to remove the "cotton wool" from 5 cocoons, on 4 of them in one place the fibers were easily removed, opening the "bald spot" (on C2.jpg on the right), in other places it is not possible to completely clean,
inside there is a homogeneous sticky mass, it tastes sour-sweet,

another cocoon had something like a tube on it, which looked like a raisin. C2.jpg on the left)

I thought it was a wasp, but I didn't find a photo of such masonry
