Dear friends, good afternoon!
There was a question about the classification of the beetle, which is discussed in this article:
Article about beetle food.
Please confirm if I understand correctly that this is a bug Alphitobius diaperinus. , as stated in the article.
If so, please tell me where you can buy or get its larvae for further breeding.
Thanks!

You give us a picture of the beetle, we will confirm or deny it. And then H. Z. from whom they made this homeogenate, maybe even a secret of the company. But I doubt that with the usual muchnik and zofobosam, which can be bought in any advanced pet store, there will be a big difference. Enjoy your meal!

This video shows a visit to the Buffalo Beetle Processing Plant: https://youtu.be/xSkfGIB0tpE?t=738
Maybe there will be information that will tell you if they have some kind of secret type of this beetle or just an ordinary muchnik beetle?
Thank you in advance!

They write in the article that this is Alphitobius_diaperinus You're talking about The big Muchnik Beetle
I don't know anything about beetles, but they seem to be different.

I say what I say. And you should learn to read and understand. I repeat, for those who are in the tank: there will be no noticeable difference in taste and nutrition between this beetle, whoever it is (your pictures are shitty - even the genus cannot be determined), and the everywhere easily accessible zophobos and tenebrio. Even before the pile of Ulomoides dermestoides, aka medicine beetle-Promoted brand lol.gif

For what purpose are you going to breed Alphitobius diaperinus? For personal consumption or a burger startup for sale?

Apparently, the Americans have established the production of beetles on bird shit and are actively lobbying for this product.

Before that, there were various European articles about the use of insects in food, mainly on house crickets and flour crushers, and some references to cockroaches. The European Food Safety Agency is very cautious about food made from insects, apparently selling them by weight entirely and growing them in Europe will not begin soon. But the import of products obtained from insects (protein extracts, etc.) and corresponding to safety standards has already been allowed.

I quickly ran through the net in search of info on Alphitobius diaperinus.

In the southern and eastern states of the NGA, the bug is a serious problem in poultry farms. Developing in the waste products of turkey houses and broiler chicken coops, beetles and larvae are important carriers of various infectious and parasitic diseases of poultry, including avian influenza, salmonellosis and Escherichia coli (these are also dangerous for humans). In addition, it is a carrier of turkey coronavirus, which gives, given the beetle's lifestyle and the population of the states, a non-zero probability of another pandemic. When eaten by some breeds, they cause intestinal obstruction (due to the lack of an enzyme that destroys chitin). Larvae damage various structures of poultry houses, making moves when searching for places to pupate, and not only in wooden products, but also from polystyrene and fiberglass, thereby increasing heat loss by up to 67%. In addition, breeding in some farms in huge quantities is dangerous for people, because beetles and larvae (like other black-bodied animals) secrete quinone, which causes various irritating reactions of the skin and mucous membrane, which is also a carcinogen.

To summarize:
1) it is currently unpromising to breed Alphitobius diaperinus as a food product, because no one really needs it in its whole form, and for deep processing into protein extract or something similar, serious equipment and tons of oil are needed to adopt a legislative framework regulating/allowing such activities, it is easier to import the finished extract and making granola bars for fools;
2) breeding fried worms for those who like to eat it is also pointless, because worms are especially small, flour crushchak and zofobas are better suited for this;
3) in general, it is inconvenient to breed this trifle, flour crushchaks, zofobas, crickets and cockroaches are better in this regard, it is also easier to assess the quality of the product due to the size, which is why the caloric content of the insect per unit mass is higher (the smaller the size, the larger the share falls on the external inedible chitinous skeleton).
4) in the United States, this beetle was formed "naturally" in large quantities, and they are trying to attach it, and if you start breeding from scratch, then it is better to use classic crops with proven maintenance and breeding mechanisms;
5) about the successful use of Alphitobius diaperinus for feeding reptiles in 3,14 zdezh, on this topic I managed to find one article about the fact that some kind of American turtle in the laboratory eats the larvae of this beetle better, because they are more mobile than the larvae of the classic flour crustacean.

In Russia, this beetle has also long been a problem of poultry houses, and they are fighting it. It lives in unkempt litter and is dangerous because the larvae enter the birds ' cloaca and cause inflammation or even death of the bird. It is bred in culture very widely and a lot, because it is extremely unpretentious and eats, unlike khrushchaks, almost everything, any slop. Bred primarily for feeding reptiles, many small lizards adore it, and it's not a * * * hedgehog.

Honestly, I haven't been interested in this topic until now

Hardly anyone breeds him on shit - it's a smelly and unhealthy business. Like other black-bodied beetles, they are bred on bran, etc. In Russia, the beetle has been cultivated for a long time, although it is not very common. Any such trifle in terrariumistics oh, how in demand, it does not live by eublefars alone... But articles with DOIs won't help you find information on this topic. However, a person is not a tree frog, for him zofobas is more relevant smile.gif
