People, pliz!
Can you tell me how to take photos of live beetles caught? And in their natural habitat?
Their activity is off the scale - they run like racehorses! You can also take pictures of dried fruits,
but this is not the same! Live - they look natural!
Should I smear my paws with glue?
Thank you.

Cover it with something like a matchbox and wait for it to calm down, then take pictures. That's how I shoot ground beetles.

Then it is better not to use a box, but a jar with cotton wool soaked in chloroform (it is them, from other chemicals it will only get worse). But this is for the lazy, in a good way you need to take pictures on the runsmile.gif, or you can put your foot in front of the running beetle and take pictures until it freezes in prostration (5-10 seconds) (the second time usually does not work).

PS The ground beetles in the photos are really good, unlike, alas, from the photos themselves. It seems that they were made on a 1:2 aperture, and such a macro is only suitable for"artists".

Disputes about artistry should really be left to " artists who see it that way." At a scientific forum, it is appropriate to argue only about the scientific value and technical quality of images. When the diaphragm is open, these values are lower than the baseboard. In fact, an average modern mobile phone or soap dish will give a much better technical photo of a minibus. And even their wretched watercolour kamjpeg will better convey detail than the inappropriate macro post-processing "a la oil" in your pictures.

P.S. I'm not a fan of the 1:40 aperture combined with the midday flash, in my opinion, somewhere from 1: 4 with some lenses begins b. m. digestible macro an APS-C, and from 1:5,6 - already with almost all. But all that's left is pampering yourself with even the coolest lens.

Yeah, chasing fast-moving beetles with a microscope without a tripod. Record a video of a master class on this microphotomasochism, and then, so be it, I'll follow your advertising link lol.gif

PS With the advent of affordable digital mirrorless cameras, microscopic cameras such as those advertised by alenagubina have become almost unclaimed. Who needs 5 megapixels for 1000 bucks to order, if at any flea market there are a lot of offers for 16-20 megapixels for 100 (with comparable or even better quality of each pixel)? And the second option can not only be screwed to the microscope, but also used for its intended purpose - to take pictures of people smile.gif
