user posted imageAdmiral (Vanessa atalanta) - a butterfly that makes annual flights. In the middle zone, these butterflies appear in the spring and spend the summer here, and then migrate to the south by winter. They usually fly quite low - at an altitude of 1-2 m. Some admirals live sedentary and do not migrate anywhere, they can give up to three generations in a year.
The picture was taken in the Astrakhan region.

Admiral's caterpillars feed on nettles and thistles.
It is said that Carl Linnaeus gave this butterfly the name Atalanta for the speed of its flight, naming it after the ancient Greek huntress Atalanta, the daughter of the king of Arcadia, who was nursed in the forest by a bear. In Greek mythology, Atalanta was famous for running faster than all people on Earth.

A beautiful butterfly, but the photo is unfortunate. The wing color scheme is not crossed out.

I apologize for the flood, but I can't resist telling you shuffle.gif
This Sunday, at the dacha, the admiral flew to our garden and sat down on the moist soil that we had recently watered, I ran for the camera, came.To get a better picture, I crawled closer.. I took one shot, and he took off, and quickly soaring somewhere disappeared, I went about my business and suddenly noticed that he was sitting on my pants.I took a picture.I deliberately scared him off. but it landed on me again, or rather on my pants.I tried grafting it onto my finger.. it didn't work out the first time, but then he crawled wonderfully and even stopped being afraid of sudden movements. He was drinking the sweat on my arm. I took some photos(this butterfly didn't want to open its wings wall.gif). I tried to chase her away, but he flew after me smile.gifI went into the house, and he circled for a long time near the threshold, then disappeared somewhere..
here are some photos

P. S. Just noticed: this one is just with a white dot (in my opinion, the female, but I doubt it).

A quiet butterfly, a bit of a drinker, caught them on the fallen apples. smile.gif
If you decide to eat, then neither a cheeky photo booth nor a bee crawling under your feet will hurt.
