user posted imagePelopeia vulgaris (Sceliphron destillatorium Ill.). Pelopians build their nests out of clay under the eaves of buildings and in other places protected from rain. They hunt spiders, which they store for their larvae. The nest consists of 10-15 cells. In each cell, the wasp collects several spiders. The larva, as it grows, eats all the spiders and pupates. Emerging from the pupae, the wasps gnaw through a hole in the nest and crawl out. They are distributed from North Africa to Europe. They are common in the south of Russia.
The picture was taken in the Astrakhan region.

I live in Yalta, I noticed Pelopeas on my loggia, and in mid-September I found 5 empty nests, there is a photo, but I don't know how to attach it...Tell me if their bites are dangerous and what should I do with their nests?

Only registered members can attach photos. Pelopeus is a harmless and non-aggressive wasp. I won't say anything about the consequences of stinging, but I'm sure it's much weaker than that of ordinary folding-winged wasps.

Handsome? It was as if someone had stuck a match in his chest and put it on the other side of his belly.

Kiev 06. VII. 2013
On my balcony, similar wasps appeared in the cracks of the plaster.
Only "my" wasps are completely dark in color , the stalk is like a thin black thread , at the end of the abdomen you can hardly see faintly noticeable yellow stripes,
the length of the wasp is up to 4 cm .
My Mail tt2pa@i.ua
Write to me how "my" wasps are called correctly and how they got to Kiev .
Thank you for your reply .
