Seaside volnyanki. The place is still the same. They flew into the light.
1-Cifuna locuples (red and smaller males)
2-Lymantria matura (male)
3-Pida niphonis (female)
4-Pida niphonis (female melanist)
5-Laelia coenosa (female with a clutch of eggs, flew to the light and immediately laid)

Yeah.. Primorye is a miracle in terms of night fishing, and not only that. Impressions, I suppose, for the rest of your life?

Still dreaming.

and yesterday I think I accidentally crushed Lymantria matura (very similar, is this species found in the Urals?) also a male, one in one the same, and I did not know who it was...

Dear Morozz.
I won't say that. but in my opinion, there is no tason flavipes in the fauna of Russia (to be honest, I did not find such a specific name in relation to the genus Laelia).
According to the article above. Chistyakova in the "Determinant of insects of the Russian Far East" we have a species of coenosa flying in Primorye.
Below is a link to the Japanese with their subspecies sangaica. In my opinion. no different from your butterfly in the photo:
http://www.jpmoth.org/Lymantriidae/Laelia_...a_sangaica.html

PS on the website of the Siberian Zoological Museum there is a list of volnyanki from their collection, compiled, as I understand it, with the participation of experts. Dubatolova. This list can be used as a reference list for the fauna of the former USSR (it is almost complete for all Bombycoidea groups).
Link: http://szmn.sbras.ru/Lepidop/Lymantr.htm

We have really very interesting fauna in Primorye.
Thanks for the photos.

Here ..., I decided to support a little volnyanok Lymantriidae.
In 2003, the female Calliteara virginea left me a "gift" right in the bag - about 20 caterpillars were hatched from it. They ate oak "slowly and sadly" all summer. Very sympanic, however, like most caterpillars in butterflies of this family.
Butterflies flew to the Far East in early June, so the maturation process actually lasted all summer, until the end of September.
A photo of the pupa, however, not the most successful, is attached.
Last-instar caterpillars were photographed. By the way, I haven't seen Gus's photo anywhere, including on Japanese websites.
Photos of butterflies will be added later.
(Yes, the pupae overwintered and the butterflies hatched in the spring)

Here are such excitements ....

Och. I want such a wave (should also be in Primorye) show:

REDDISH-GRAY
WOOLLY FOOT Dicallomera fascelina (Linnaeus, 1758)

Arriving at the light at night, the butterfly freezes in a bizarre pose. Perhaps in some cases, the shaggy forelimbs put forward are taken by the bird's head and save its life.
picture: ____________Calliteara_fascelina_1015________.jpg

Well, her caterpillar is also good:

But still great!!!
Let's ask Morozzz to rename the theme to just WORRY.

to cajarc: We trust in you, do you have Numenes disparilis?
It's very good!

24.01.2008 22:16, Grigory Grigoryev

Yes of course there is! shuffle.gif True, only females, I saw the male once during the day, I didn't even have time to react , he was so quick to do it. Males do not fly to the light.... sorry

have you ever tried hatching eggs?

24.01.2008 22:19, Grigory Grigoryev

Oh, by the way, the male Pida niphonis was born only once.
Well done MOROZZZ, what a big-eyed one, however

24.01.2008 22:24, Grigory Grigoryev

"have you ever tried hatching eggs?"

To be honest, I try not to get involved with wintering caterpillars, and volnyanki have such a problem with almost all species. Probably, except for the genus Calliteara.

I have a Chinese male without a mustache.
(I started editing your message by mistake first shuffle.gif)

Well, P. niphonis grabbed almost by accident. On Vityaz caught the tail of Japonica adusta, well, I accidentally saw this on a piece of paper.

24.01.2008 22:52, Grigory Grigoryev

Without a mustache is also good. It's too bad that it's Chinese, not Russian (a joke, of course)

24.01.2008 22:54, Pavel Morozov

Because he's Chinese, I'm vaguely unsure if he's a different species.
There is, however, his Chinese female.

24.01.2008 23:13, Grigory Grigoryev

In Japan, 2 species, very similar

24.01.2008 23:38, Pavel Morozov

I found this site, looked at it - a huge number of taxa... are you sure there are no synonyms there?

24.01.2008 23:50, Pavel Morozov

I found this site, looked at it - a huge number of taxa... are you sure there are no synonyms there?

Gee, who knows?
Here it is necessary to dig in the periodicals, of course.

24.01.2008 23:53, AntSkr

It's just that many genera in which I was absolutely sure that there was only one or a couple of species have more than ten of them! After all, there are synonyms there... it's impossible for there to be so many species...

24.01.2008 23:55, Pavel Morozov

It is possible that several were hidden in the same form. The audit was conducted and identified.

25.01.2008 0:03, AntSkr

Even more surprising - these types are not found anywhere else, except on the site zipcodezoo.com all over the internet. It turns out that these taxa go only in the minds of the highest circles of entomologists... And how exactly can you be sure of determining the species then without consulting and concluding with a professional entomologist?

For an example, you can look at the genera Bombyx and Endromis, I think everyone knows.

25.01.2008 17:05, AntSkr

I figured it out, in addition to types, subspecies and forms are indicated there (if you follow the link http://www.nhm.ac.uk/jdsml/research-curati...xonNo=74976%2e0 and open the image on the left. I think it's very inconvenient...
to Morozzz about the genus Numenes, it is necessary to clarify, it is unlikely that there are so many species...

And there are a lot of synonyms there (indicated all on the same site www.nhm.ac.uk).
As I understand it, all taxa described ever are given there.

On May 16-17, caterpillars with very long hairs appeared. Real ugly ducklings were transformed over time and became very bright caterpillars.
