The pupa is located in a thin cocoon, sometimes between the leaves of a food plant.
The male pupa is much smaller than the female

Female (appeared only yesterday)
naturally, much larger than the male. This copy, while I was at work, somehow got out of the cage, managed to get a little shabby and in the evening was found after a long search on an Ikea stool.

When disturbed, both the male and female fold their wings over themselves, showing off a bright pink belly.

So, Lymantria bivittata (Moore, 1879)

And an old woman can be a mess.
In the summer, growing a brood of Nygmia plana (see above), I experienced for myself what allergic dermatitis is. The hairs of the caterpillars got on the skin and caused itching and rashes in the form of hives. The cd problem was dealt with safely.
But.
The other day, I was sorting through the coverties that were lying around in the "bins" and found several with female waves of Euroctis, Artaxa and Nygmia sp. and their clutches. For some reason, the caterpillars didn't come out then, but I still left the butterflies. Egg clutches usually contain a large number of small and flying hairs from the end of the abdomen.
A few minutes after opening the butterfly envelope, my right eye began to itch. What happened next-see the photo.

I post photos as a warning, especially for allergy sufferers.
And in the photos - at the top is an erythematous-urticarial rash, at the bottom is a limantrid clutch (the bottom photo was taken in May)

Still would like to see images of Euroctis (=Prothesia) karghalica...

In the second half of June in Kazakhstan, it was caught everywhere, from the steppes in the Naurzum district in the north (Kostanay region, 52 degrees NW) to the Syr Darya and Karatau in the south (42-43 degrees NW). The trap flew badly, but in the morning, and later in the afternoon, a lot of people sat on the screen and on other surfaces, without flying away.

Not the easiest to identify butterflies. The upper one is something like S. bipunctapex, and I'll try to determine the lower one from the "waves of China".

Regarding the depicted S. pulverea (seaside and Nepalese), some of them do not belong to this species at all. In general, the group is very complex and numerous. There was no full-fledged revision for it. I have heard that even in museum collections they are put on a fentipic basis.

09.01.2011 12:19, Igorvet

A couple more Somena sp. (pulverea?) Male from Pokhara, female from Nagarkot. Although there may be different types.
