Cossids have similar antennae.
I don't recall any harpies in your training camps, though. Closely related Stauroplitis were.

It's good. From the place of capture to the border with Malaysia about 350 km. Probably from there it settles slowly.

Always welcome smile.gifBy the way taxon super. When I worked with him, I couldn't even believe that the differences in genitalia could be so large compared to similar species.

Well, let's continue.
Then there will be a lot of images.
The genus Notodonta Ochsenheimer, 1810 (Notodontidae, Notodontinae) gives its name to the entire family.
It has at least 15 species in the Holarctic. Some are widespread and common. They usually fly in two generations.
I will introduce most of the Eurasian species.

Notodonta torva (Hubner, 1803)
is the most widespread species found almost throughout temperate Eurasia and North America.
Caterpillar on poplars, willows and birch.
Adults from different populations do not differ much from each other in appearance, and only the population from Qin Lin stands out as a separate subspecies.
The following are examples from the Moscow region, Tuva, Primorye and Sakhalin.

It is quite variable, forming several subspecies.
Nominative, Moscow region.

These butterflies can be described as Notodonta dromedarius schintlmeisteri Witt, 1980
. The Caucasus, Karachay-Cherkessia, and Teberda
taxon is synonymized with the nominative by Schintlmeister. Strangely, however, the imago is much larger and the pattern is somewhat different.

Notodonta dembowskii Oberthur, 1879
Siberian-Far Eastern species.
In Siberia, it flies together with N. dromedarius, from which it is almost indistinguishable in the west of its range.
Distribution - Eastern Siberia, the Amur region and Primorye, adjacent areas of China, Korea, Sakhalin, the Kuril Islands and Japan.
Pretty common.
In the photo - specimens from Primorye and Sakhalin

Notodonta derbendica Daniel, 1965
Karachay-Cherkessia, Teberda.
Previously, it appeared as a subspecies of the zigzag, but thanks to the work of Saldaitis & Ivinskis, it was separated into a separate species. It differs well from the zigzag and the structure of the genitals, and externally-larger and brighter.
Distribution - Caucasus and Transcaucasia, Eastern Turkey.
This specimen was collected together with N. dromedarius "schintlmeisteri"

And from me another "fresh" - Notodonta dedmazai Schintlmeister, 2013

The ziczac group also includes very beautiful species, such as Notodonta albicosta (Matsumura, 1920), Honshu, Japan.
This species is endemic to the Japanese Archipelago and is quite rare.
Central China is home to the twin of Notodonta roscida, one of the rarest species.
