I am writing on this topic, I have heard about the possibility of crossing L. populi and S. ocellatus in the laboratory. Has anyone ever seen such instances?

23.09.2007 14:58, omar

Yes, I saw it. It was Efetov and Budashkin who conjured it.

23.09.2007 15:36, AntSkr

Is it possible to create a hybrid in non-laboratory conditions? Theoretically?

Once upon a time there was the USSR, and there were many republics, and in some of them Smerinthus kindermanni flew (and still flies, of course).
Something I felt offended for this hawk moth, and I offer you 3 subspecies of this butterfly from the territory of the former USSR:
- nominative (Armenia, Vayk, June 1997)
- obsolete (Alma-Ata region, June 1990)
- orbatus (orbata) (male Tajikistan, Varzob Gorge, Kondara, June 1991; female South Kazakhstan, June 2000)

About this hawk moth on the T. Pittaway website, it is written that in Thailand it flies in mountain oak forests during the wet season.
In general, the genus Rhodoprasina Rothschild & Jordan, 1903, is quite peculiar. Views from the mountains of North Vietnam and northern Thailand fly in winter, when at night in the mountains the air temperature drops below 10°C.

So that the topic does not die down, I will refresh it with new photos.
The neotropical region is home to about three dozen species of the subfamily Smerinthinae. Particularly noteworthy is the genus Adhemarius Oiticica Filho, 1939.
A. palmeri was already presented above. Let's add a few more features to this topic. All from Peru.
