In continuation of the theme of hawkmoth in nature. Bedstraw hawkmoth (Celerio galli) feeds on petunias in a flower bed, MO, Lukhovitsy, in the city, right at the railway station, it is a pity that these flower beds have long been dismantled. 22 Aug 2011

Unfortunately, Evgeny Ivanovich never answers such questions. He is a man of principle, a breeder of hawkmoth. I got it, brought it out, spread it out beautifully, and showed it. If you are interested , please contact us personally or by mail. Publicity, it is not necessary. umnik.gif

Has anyone ever found Elpenor caterpillars on Galium, Impatiens, or Vitis vinifera ? And in general, who on what plants found caterpillars of average wine? And at what time of day?

I came across only on narrow-leaved cypress (willow-tea, Chamerion angustifolium). In August and September, the caterpillars sit openly on plants during the day. They are very numerous.

I (Vologda) now, on Kipreya, in the evening or when it's cloudy, it's good and you can see a lot from afar. I've never seen it in the sun.

Did you find it near the ground under the measuring stick? He never goes up to the top of the bedstrap.
By the way, the average wine is also like a small wine sitting at the bottom of the bedstrap or climbs to the top?

You've confused me a little. Bedstraw is not a shrub, but a herbaceous plant, the height of which does not exceed 7.5 cm. In our Leningrad region, it usually stretches along the ground. Therefore, the height is quite small and it is difficult to distinguish where the plant has a top-bottom.
Found on the plant itself in the daytime

20.08.2017 12:16, Evgenich

Still, more often than average wine can be found on ivan tea. This is its main food plant. You should look for a small one on the bedstrap.

Has anyone ever found hawk moth caterpillars on a willow tree? What are the best places to look? By the way, is it too late to look for him now? On what forage trees (type) is it best to search for it? On the young ones?
Has anyone ever found bindweed moth caterpillars? Search in places where there is a lot of bindweed or walk along the roads and look for caterpillars?

04.09.2017 16:05, Evgenich

In our Leningrad region, willow is its main food plant. It's easier to find on young plants. At the expense of deadlines. It's probably a little late for you. Bindweed do not live here, I won't say anything...

In the Rostov region and further south, both species produce two generations, and they are most likely the same. So with the timing, everything is normal.

Dear colleagues, there is a request for the bumblebee Hemaris ducalis. It is very important to find a specimen(s) of this species from Darvaz (enough photos). The situation is typical: c Darvaza Grumm-Grzhimailo described as a species temiri, the type is probably lost, and therefore its relationship with the taxa described by Eichberger is not very clear. If you can send a photo here or to my personal account, I will be very grateful. Thank you in advance! V. Zolotukhin

Dear colleagues.
I am looking for a photo of caterpillars of the Turkmen milkweed hawk moth Hyles peplidis-from Turkmenistan (KopetDag) or northern Iran. Maybe there is someone? I understand that Houston is not widely available right now, but suddenly who has the old negatives left?
Thank you in advance!!!
